Been following this thread with interest and wanted to put more miles on before I commented.

I also just purchased the Primacy MXV4, H rated 17's for my '02 and they are really quiet...much more so than the Dunlops that were on the car. Seems to handle better too and I got them from Costco for $756 installed.

Interesting tho, I just got the '05 for the wife and it has slightly used Pilot Sport A/S + on them. So in comparing them I find that while both cars are Sport models, the '05 does handle better than the '02. So the only difference is the 18's on the '05 and 17's on the '02 that I can see. Are there any other differences that Lexus made to the later edition Sport model that anyone knows of?? Did they perhaps beef up the sway bar or put heavier springs or shocks on 2nd generation?

In comparing the noise level between the two I find the Primacy to be quieter overall.

Very pleased with the Primacy so far and would get them again.

Could be wheel size making the difference in road feel and handling! Not sure just a guess! L.G.N.M

The 18's may be v or w speed rated.

Thanks for all the votes of confidence on the Primacy's. Picked up four from Sears for 660.00 bucks, can't wait to get these Goodyear Comfortred's off. 225 55 17 H rated for my 04.

I got my Primacy's from Sears as well. They were about the same price as well. Primacy's again are the best tires I've ever used and I would love to have discovered them years ago!!! L.G.N.M

The 2002 LS430 manual states:

"Vehicles equipped with 225/55R17 97W tires: Your Lexus
has been fitted with specially developed tires which provide
exceptional dynamic performance under general road
conditions. However your riding comfort may worsen a little
and road noise may increase during driving. You may also
notice that your tires will wear more rapidly and tire grip
performance will be reduced on the snowy and/or icy roads
when compared to standard tires."

W is a subset of the V speed rating. Therefore, the 97H tires should yield the quietest tire, not the 97W/97V.

I'm moving over from OEM 18 inch Turanzas on my 04. Can anyone compare the Pilot Sport A/S Plus to the Turanzas? I'd love a little less give on the corners, but don't want to sacrifice too much in the way of noise and comfort.

Anyone have suggestions on when/where to look for specials on these tires or are they so popular that I should expect to pay full retail whether I buy them now or in three months?

I'm about to put a set of 19" Pilot Sport A/S Plus on my '05. Re: good deals, the best you are likely to do is to find your best price whether it be Discount Tire, Tire Rack, or wherever you can find it, then take advantage of the National Promotion that's running right now (ends late May, IIRC) and get the $60 gift card from Michelin. It's not much, but that's about as good as it gets from Michelin as they don't have to go too rich to sell their tires.

On a related note, did you know that race teams that use Michelins actually PAY for their race tires despite the fact that companies like Goodyear will GIVE them tires in order to get the PR? American Le Mans Series is a good example -- there are about 4 or 5 tire makers competing in that series and the tires are FREE from all the Mfgr's except Michelin. But then Michelins have been on about 90% of the race winners in that series, so I guess it's worth it to the teams. LOL
