i am about 99% sure that the average mpg on the display is calculated by rotations so therefore a larger/ taller (diameter) rim/ tire would have to spin less times to get you the same distance down the road so your actual mpg will be a little higher than what is displayed on the average display. if you change the size of the tire/rim larger or smaller it is best to get it re calibrated so as not to get to many speeding tickets...

that 101 tires calculator is an awesome link for finding this out by the way, i used to use it a lot, thanks for reposting!

You're at 45 psi because you have 19" right? So if for 17" it's recommended 32 psi, what is the "max" that we should go up so that we gain some mpg, without going bald in the middle? 39 psi?

i'm pretty sure psi is recommended based on the tire, but like you said higher psi = higher mpg but less traction and comfort, lower psi = lower mpg but better traction and better comfort.

Yeah, I can't ride the 19's with 32 psi. It will drag like you have a flat tire and your MPGs will go down about 2-3 MPGs. My tire is rated to about 50 psi max. I put 45psi in the font due to the engine weight of the car and 43psi in the rears when riding on my Wald 19's. When I first adjusted the tire pressure I paid attention and looked at where the tire threads rides on and made sure it is flat across and not only in the middle for both front and rears as you may think with the higher pressure. It looks normal and rolls smooth with less drag. You may want to lower the tire pressure if you were to race it at the tracks for more traction off the line. I use my car as a daily driver for comfort and to get the best MPG's. The ride did firm up a bit with the increased psi and added a different sounding tire noise when going over bumps which is normal andway better than riding on quiet flat tires with low MPGs.

quick question for you guys; any experience with nitrogen in your tires?? my closest lex dealership (annapolis) just sent out an email talking about how they are now offering to fill your tires with nitrogen instead of just normal air, the email goes on to talk about all the advantages of having nitrogen vs normal air, but i was just curious if anyone had tried this yet and what were your opinions??
