I brought my RX in for a noise from the rear strut and ended up being a bad one and so they "recommended" that I change all four at once and they would give me a 10% break. I could have said "no" and then changed just the one, but since the vehicle had around 90K already, I was just like "ah, get it done and start anew..."
Something like an oil change you can hold off for a few miles, but powertrain and brakes I never fool around with. No engine, no transmission, no move anywhere. No power window, you can still drive.

Like Usermel is saying, if the problem is not fixed (which I think it will not be fixed because a simple drain and fill doesn't sound right) then bring to a Lexus dealer and get it looked at by Lexus. Quite possible that it's all under the TSB and then it's under Lexus. Also, a dealer can "advise" you what to change, but it's your call on whehter or not you feel like doing it.

Computers!!!
Keep in mind as well that most new transmissions the computer will go before the actual guts, specially in a Lexus. When you see the reliability of these cars its hard to see how a mechanical failure like that can happen.
Make sure the dealer does a electronics diagnostic as well as a mechanical. I'm sure they will but does not hurt to ask.

You sound like you had same scenario I had!!!

So, that said, I payed for it all just a week apart to get issue one and done. Just didnt do it all same day because I needed new tires they were feathering as well. Had horrible tire wear for about 30,000 miles and never knew why until this issue was pointed out to me!!!! Wasnt severe so they didnt press the issue but by 90,000 miles my alignment was effected so I said let me do this now before it becomes urgent. Thats why Im urging this threads poster(AlexusAnja is urging threads starter as well) to have it looked at after telling service specialist the issue. Major dealers like Benz and Lexus and BMW tend to try and be straight shooters with there customers being they figure price isnt a major issue but a small to medium issue nonetheless! I do understand and Im frugal as well. In my frugality I have exceptions though and those tend to happen when I feel spending less will cost me more in the future!
If its major for me always I go to the dealer and have them look at it. On this LS Ive done all work there besides 1 or 2 tire installations! The rest major or minor all dealer done. I do all oil changes there as well. I like the relationship you build with the dealer opposed to the opposite! Going to outside people lessens the familiarity with your car and you to the Lexus dealer and when it comes to deals on future cars that helps as well. If they know you service and buy with them there more willing to cut you slack on service cost as well(Iv'e gotten discounts from my dealers service department and free items such as a battery when my battery went dead).
I paid a discounted fee for the suspension work. I was given 40% off the price. 90,000 mile service was regular price and I had no problem with that!!! All the Best on the work you have done!! L.G.N.M

I agree with usermel. I have a 2002 SC400 that has never had any mechanical work done by anyone other than a Lexus dealer. In 18 years they have never failed to fix a problem. I have complete confidence in them. Am following the same routine with my 2004 LS430 UL.
I personally cannot see why I would spend the money to own a Lexus and then risk bad service or junky parts for it to save a few bucks. Just not worth it.

Me and Jayclapp and others who chose Lexus to do our services all the time are fortunate to be able to do so and I dont take it for granted. Being honest, I have thought about going to an outside mechanic before. Just couldnt leave my comfort zone for a mechanic I dont know. The service department here charges last I checked $90 an hour. Sure its higher now and when I did my last service i didnt check the hourly rate.
If I can find an ex Lexus mechanic that worked at Lexus I'd use them. Would be taking a chance but, at least they worked on Lexus before. Truthfully I love Lexus' loaner car perk and there lobby bar none is the TOPS of even Benz. Owning a Benz was special and they sent a thank you from Godiva to me among other things for buying an S Class and it was a good service department but, Lexus by far is better service wise the Mercedes!!

Too close for comfort...
Just makes me feel better when Im worry free as much as possible when the dealer that makes my car does my service. That said, I truly respect and understand my fellow members concerns about being over charged and respect there decision to go outside of Lexus for service.

And that is exactly it... the comfort zone between you and your "mechanic" whether they are a mechanic in a Lexus dealership or not. Just because someone works for the dealership doesn't guarantee competence on their behalf, and just because a mechanic is not at a dealership doesn't automatically discount them for not understand your vehicle. It's maintaining history that's most important.
I bring my Acura to a mechanic in town who was a Honda/Acura technician or several years and has all the Honda/Acura certificates he earned on the wall when worked for them. He separated from them over ten years ago and opened his own shop in town and specializes in them. I found him to be quite knowlegable about the vehicles and a straight shooter. I have no hesitation bring to him my Acura.
For my Lexus, I bring to the dealership because of two things, one I can't find a good "former" Lexus/Toyota mechanic near me, and second I get a free loaner at Lexus...

Got my used 04 LS 430 last month, with 78000 miles ODO
but since last week, I found that once when I was driving on Freeway, I step on gas, but rpm going to red line without speed up......
then this week I found that sometimes transy can't shift into 4th or higher gear......
and when I put shift in S mode, only shows 5 in the screen......
