Avalon is on a GS frame. I think the two of them compare very nicely, with exception of styling which goes hands down to the GS. I like the interior of the Avalon more so than the GS. The Avalon was also more roomy for my large frame.

i would like to think that they are both toyotas, but one is obviously higher on the toyota latter. maybe think of which one will retain its value the most, especially since you seem to put a lot of miles on a car.

I am in sales too...maybe we should just switch the L emblem for the T emblem.

Wow, I didn't know that.

When I drove my friend's avalon, it felt so light. After getting back in my GS, it felt firmer and heavier

Again, it's a personal choice. However after driving an LS, I wouldn't want to get in an avalon.

In 2002, after a lot of research and test drives, we had the choice of a new car down to the Avalon and the LS430. In 2002, the differences were not as apparent as now. My wife and I alternate the choice of the new car, and as it was my turn, we got the LS430 (she preferred the Avalon). Other than the cost of routine maintainance, the LS has been a dream. We recently took a new 2008 loaded Avalon for a test drive. It was quiet, handled well, good rear leg room, and was peppy (V6), but the seats were not comfortable for me, and it did feel light. Will stick with our Lexus. After all, it only has 85k on it.

I dont know alot about the Avalon, but I always thought it seemed like a decent alternative to a Lexus. I would prefer the Lexus just based on the service quality and the famous luxury name

I have to say the Avalon has a nice interior and is a nice size car for comfort.

I do have a problem with the fact that it is comes with near-Lexus price, and has no luxury car warranty - heck, it doesn't even have folding mirrors (even manually), and you can even get auto-folding on a Hyundai Azera.

If I'm up in that price neighborhood, I'd get the better B2B warranty and the Lexus logo on my car - AND folding mirrors.

An Avalon and LS430 may have the same motha, but they don't have the same looks/feel that's for sure. Sort of like Ashton and Michael Kutcher... fraternal twins, but nothing alike.

They are comparable in theory, but really nothing alike. V8 to V6. RWD to FWD. Fine leather to regular leather (or cloth). Big snob factor vs. no snob factor.

Since the Avalon is a front-driver and the GS is a rear-driver, I'm pretty sure they don't share the same platform. Since they are unibody design, they don't really have a frame in the traditional sense of the word. That's less material than which end of the car propels it. The Avalon shares its platform with the ES and the Camry. The mechanical differences among the three are negligible, and stretching the platform for the longer wheelbase of the ES and the Avalon is not complicated. Throw away the 4-cylinder choice, add a bunch of leather and options and you got a Camry in a tuxedo with the ES. The Toyota guys will tell you an Avalon is an ES for $4k less, but there's more to the difference than that. BTW, I had both an ES and a GS, so I'm not slamming them; they were both great cars, and I'd have either one again in a heart-beat.
