Anyone know the best place to order the trunk shocks for 2001 LS430?

Best price I've been quoted so far is $105 each for the OEM trunk shocks...kind of expensive.

Suggestions appreciated.

When I'm ready to install these, do the old ones just pop out and new ones snap in?

There is a small clip on each end of the strut's ball which you may remove with a very small and thin bladed flat head screwdriver. Pop that off and the ball will easily come out of it's socket..

I'll see how these work and may be even get the hood struts from the same place. These feel like they need to be replaced soon as well.

This may sound like a nutty request but when you hit the "trunk open" on the key fob what supposed to happen? On my Buick it was spring loaded and would shoot up wide open. On the LS it just pops and then I have to use considerable force to lift it. Closing it kinda has a feel like a hood... after a certain amount of closing it drops and locks... is this normal?

 

Yes. This is the case with mine.

 

Try to stick with e-bay for the cheapest parts. I am lazy and usually let the dealer screw me on the price. To lazy for the leg work

 

I have ordered trunk struts for my 03 LS430 for $72/pair delivered. I have replaced both the hood and trunk struts on my 96 LS400 a few years back and it was not a problem. Now I have a problem.....I can take the old struts off but I can not compress the new ones the 1/2 inch to click the ball joint into the ball unit on the lid. I have put the strut on the bottom near the trunk edge but, and I am not weak but I can't compress that SOB no matter how hard I try to hook them in. Suggestions? This is REALLY frustrating.

there are 2 black plastic "stoppers" that prevent you from opening the trunk far enough for the struts to be installed. you'll see them when you open the trunk. remove them(you can do this with just your fingers, no tools), they're easy to remove, then you can install the struts. just take these plastic things off on both sides, install struts and then put them back.

BTW, I installed mine. They work pretty good. When I installed them, I put few drops of Mobile 1 for now as a lubricant, but they still squeek a little, even when I drive I can hear them on pot holes and stuff.
I probably need to put some sort of grease so they stop squeeking.

 

I just bought a pair for the trunk for $82.28 including sales tax and shipping from autopartsbylou.com They fit perfectly and work like a new car. The only minor thing I noticed, was the retaining clips that lock the ball in the socket, were a little difficult to get them to lock. The design was not exactly like to old ones I removed, which I don't think were Lexus originals (no Lexus name, a CT name). I could have used the clips from the old struts, but I didn't. However, I saved those clips and threw away the old struts.
