Default 2005 vs 2006

What might be the biggest differences between these cars, to make me get one and not the other?

WHAT THE ??? This is a trick question right? The 2005 is bashed up while the 2006 is mint condition?

Just taking into consideration the two and price variance (not considering both are overpriced), if both are in near mint condition then definitely the 2005. It's go so much more goodies in it and it's the cheaper of the two. The only thing going for the 2006 is that it's one year newer, but because it's base, it's way more overpriced than the 2005.

In terms of trim, powertrain, looks, etc. there was no difference between the 2004-2006, just color additions. I have a 2004 in CL, and you'll love it way more than the base.

IMO

with just the small amt of info you posted, the '05 without a doubt. it's cheaper and has more options. 28k miles is not bad at all for a 4 yr old car.

Ok.

Well there is another small issue, it's just me, but I'll be selling my 2008 Avalon Touring edition, so the going back in years thing, is a bit hard to take.

I'm waiting on information and pictures for the 2006, before I decide one way or the other.

The prices for these seem in line with what I'm seeing at most car dealerships, and online.

I've checked out a few at dealerships in MA, and these prices seem cheap.

I was just at Ira Lexus and they had a 2006 LS 430 with 51,000 miles on it, and they wanted $34,500.00, but would tae $31,500.00 out the door.

The 2005 books for $30,450.00 in KBB, so the price doesn't seem high?

Also, I just noticed, that both cars are listed as LS 430 Base, on the web site for this dealership, so based on that, I'm waiting for more information on the 2006.

Is there a place where a person can enter a car serial number, and find out what the car came with from the factory? If so, I would enter the serial number for the 2006, and find out about it.

The dealership has the '06 in being reconditioned at this time, and won't have pictures till the end of the day. Not a big deal, after all, what is 8 - 10 hours of waiting, to decide.

I would go with the 05 because of the options, if its in good condition.

I had the same dilema when I bought my car 2 months ago. I was choosing between an 04 and 05. The 05 was base with low miles. The 04 was a UL with higher miles and a cheaper price. I ended up getting it. I couldn't tell it was an 04 because it was so clean.

And if I might ask, what ws the price range for the cars you were looking at, and what did you end up paying for the 2005?

No, bashed up meaning banged/smashed/destroyed/damaged up... I can't see a custom luxury with similiar miles going for $2K less than a one year newer BASE model. If nothing, they should be about the same price.

When I was shopping, my '04 LS with anywhere from 30-36K was going for $22-28K. Saw some '05 LS with CL trim for only $1000 more. This was almost a year ago, so prices have fallen for the '05 for sure.

As for KBB, never trusted that for anything but purely reference and what NOT to pay for it. The market for big luxo vehicles is just not as high as KBB and Edmunds are listing them for.

I would say look in Cars.com or AutoTraders.com to get an idea of what selling price right now is for the vehicles, and then take about $1K off, or $2 if daring and good negotiator.

I just saw your previous note of "going back" from a 2008 Avalon to an older LS430. Have you driven an LS430 yet? You're not going back by any means, you're going forward a giant leap by taking a two-three year step back. The LS430 blows away the current Avalon in every area, except for rear passenger space.

Avalon, a giant circus elephant with just a rope... LS430, a giant circus elephant with a leather saddle, gold covered tusks, and all the gilded trimmings.

There was a recent thread on Avalon vs. LS430... go read up on it.
