Default lights in the glove box not coming on

Yesterday I noticed that the lights in the glove box do not come up when I open the glove box. There are two lights there so I am guessing that the bulbs are probably fine but there must be some other common problem. Any clues?

On a side note does lower portion of the glove box open as well? I saw this photo and got confused. This is on an Australian website.

2001-2003 had a dual glove box. The did away with it after those years.

I would start with changing the bulbs. Maybe when one went out it wasn't as noticable and then the second one going out made it obvious.

If it's not the bulbs then it would probably be either the switch (if there even is one, i remember a post a while back about the bulbs always being on) or a fuse might also be out.

The glove box and middle console lights only work if the park or headlights are on, why Lexus designed it that way?! Your guess is good as mine, I found this out when I first bought my 430 and took it back in under CPO and the tech told me how the glove box lights work.

Honda/Acura must work the same way because my Integra and former Accord both did not light up unless the headlight/parking lights were also on. I guess they didn't figure you might be in a dark garage with the glove box open. They just thought the light should come on only when light on because then it would mean you're at night.

First the fact that your unable to adjust how low your side mirror will drop when in reverse, now this. wow Lexus...really? Time to sell

But seriously....this must have been the slow engineer that put these thoughts together.

That was it. I turned on the headlights and they do work. It is kind of stupid that they don't work without it but I can live with it.

There is a thread about replacing lights with LED lights. I did not see glovebox lights in there. anyone knows what will work and how to replace them?
