Default 40 psi in 20" tires?

I have accelerated wear on the outside and inside edges of my tires, have previously been maintaining pressure at 30 psi. I noticed the wear and bumped it up to 34 psi. My mechanic suggested 40 psi. I have 20" wheels, 275 in back and 245 in front, although back tires really only have inside edge wear due to higher negative camber. Alignment has always been good. Thoughts?

Inside AND outside tread wear?

Inside is usually camber, outside edge wear is usually a toe problem.

(back from the dead! Selling my WRX for an LS430 soon!)

I run my 255/35 and 275/30 20 at 50 psi with toyo T1r's.
Toyo has a calculator or each car to set the psi to and it showed 42-45 for me and my sizes. I uped it a bit as tires are cheaper than wheels.
