Just took my 2001 LS430 in for the timing belt work and they gave me an ES350 as a loaner. The first thing I noticed was a message on the Nav screen saying something like you are using it at your own risk, then after a few seconds, "swoosh, the map appears. No prompt for me to answer, "I agree" damn that's nice.
I also think the display is down a little lower, not as much glare, but this car did not have the ML sound. The radio sounded nice, but I think the ML in both of my cars sounds better. The Nav was data version 8.1, the same as what I have in my SC430. But it looks better and really found a lot of POI's.
Also, I noticed a shifting difference, six speed tranny of course. And the push button start was neat.
Oh, well in a few years, I will get a newer model LS430 or 460.

If you really like the LS and aren't ready to get rid of it, you can install the Vaistech SL2Vi. While it basically allows you to play an iPod thru your sound system it also punches the "I Agree" button. It's almost worth the money just for that feature. However I primarily installed it in my 04 LS to be able to purchase a 120GB iPod and play it thru my system (uses car controls on stereo as well as wheel controls - I love it). It's like adding a hard drive to your car.

x2. That was the first thing I noticed when I started up the car...poof! The "I agree" screen magically disappeared. What an annoyance
The '08-09's also have the gen-5 nav with the thick blue streets while the '01-03's have the gen-3 with the yellow background and skinny green streets. Too bad the brakes on the ES (and RX) are sub-par (at least compared to those on my LX). Even my stock honda CRV brakes are superior to the ES/RX brakes.

I've got a 2006 LS430. How do I tell what generation of navi I have and are there any substantive upgrades that will make it better than the piece of crap it is now? Sorry for the questions about a topic that has been beaten to death already but I'd appreciate any info. It's the only thing about the car that really annoys me. Well, that and the fact that whenever you do something like throw it in reverse and the camera comes up, it reverts back to the Nav page instead of what I had it on (usually the radio page). Anyway, thanks in advance for any information....

You have the Gen4 nav. You can upgrade the maps (new streets and updated Points of interest/POI) but not the version of nav you have. So no way to fix the complaints you have unfortunatly. Short of installing a new nav system, which by lexus prices, will most likely cost as much as you paid for the car itself.

I got an ES as a loaner when they replaced my headlight. Nice car but no an LS for sure.
Headlight (AFS) works much smoother than my 05LS. Mine seems to be much more twitchy where it had very smooth movement.
Interior is trash. It's nice, but it feels cheap when compared to my 3yrs older LS.
Nav was very cool. Much cleaner looking.
Push start was sweet. Jealous
I'd stick with my car over all, but I do wish it had some of the same features. 460 you say.
Some day, but not anytime soon. lol

Sorry to crash an LS forum but you seem to know a lot about the Navi. I have an 07 ES 350 UL. I have to press the annoying button. My friend bought a later version 07 and his skips by the I agree and proceeds on. Would the version 7 upgrade solve my problem or do I have a version 4? Thanks
