I'm in RC Helis, so I think I can handle it :-)
I don't like surprises with no blueprint to tell me what's in the black box.

I'm going to give it another shot.
Do I need to take out the screws at the bottom?
I was only trying to unsnap the top (5 "clips" all around)
There is also some sort of round flat fuse at the bottom.

Stay tuned.

I removed 2 screws at the bottom. Once you get that "housing" off, you will see that its very intuitive.

Mission successfully completed!
And no casualties... This thing now works like a charm.

Guys, make this one a sticky. It saves us from an hour of labor to clean the switch to 2 mirrors + a switch ~2000$ all depending on dealer integrity.

Took couple shots while the switch was opened.

The board (notice the grease in center... I didnt have any conductive grease to replace... So I left some)


The switch (Rubbed the contacts with fine glass sandpaper then clean with q-tips)


And clean the contacts on the "gasket" with q-tips.


I'm happy

Oh... this forum shows pictures in attachments as well. Oh well.

Just wanted to thank you all for this thread!

My car was having issues with the switch as well. The right side was a bit intermittent and I had to try selecting it a few times before it would adjust. The left side was odd too because I could adjust it fine in any direction EXCEPT for up.

I didn't have anything to clean the switch with, so I ended up taking it apart and then putting it back together again. Not sure what happened, but everything is in working order again.

My '05 was still under warranty and I took my LS into dealership and told them that I wanted the switch replaced. There was no need to change out the mirrors since they were replaced when I bought the LS back in '08. I played around with the switch, cleaned it, etc, but even with the switch out and still connected, it intermittently worked. Needless to say, they dealership still replaced both mirrors AND the switch. Gotta love it. It was just easier for them to do that.

The only pain I had was since I had the turn signal covers, I had to take those back to the shop to have those reinstalled.

Yeah, with most cars, switches that get used very seldom, like the mirrors and AFS/VSC on LS430, sometimes corrosion or fungus settles on the switch contacts. This renders the contacts to have a bad connection inside the switch as its only lightly spring loaded. Cleaning them with things like "electrical contact cleaner spray" sold at Radio Shack or Fry's usually cures them temporarily till it develops again. If you remove and clean them manually, be sure to use some anti-corrosion additive and solvent to wipe it free of oils and other matter that might introduce molds and corrosion.

I was experiencing the EXACT same problem(s) as the original poster was having. I followed the advice of those that replied to this thread, and wa-la.......problem solved!!!
Much thanks to the original poster, those that posted directions on how to solve the problem, and those that took the time to take pics and post them up. I saved myself plenty of dinero, as well as the headache of having to take my car to the stealership.

I did this to my 04 a month ago. Worked like a charm! Local dealer was recommending a new master switch for about $250 + two new mirrors for $1,200!!! Fixed for free

Thanks to everyone on this thread.

One hour ago neither mirror worked and I was hoping to find a blown fuse. My wife has bent the passenger side mirror back while backing out of the garage on more than one occasion, and I thought that if I didnt find a blown fuse, it might be dead from the impacts.

I found this thread, and the photos really made it a no brainer. I took the switch out, took it apart, cleaned the contacts, and works like new.

I had a similar problem and discovered my battery was dying causing the mirrors not to work even though the car would start.
