Default satellite radio for less

I purchased the adapter, sirius tuner, and antenna, all new, on ebay for $229, and had them installed for $150 at a stereo shop. I now have sirius that plays through my Mark Levinson/nav system, and it cost me 1/2 what the dealer wanted for the same parts. XM is available, too.
See Vais Technology for detailed installation instructions. For the best price, go to ReplacementRadios.com, or see them on ebay.

I now have the parts to do my Sirius install. A previous attempt to run the antenna wire in both the windshield and rear window gaskets proved very difficult. Where did they place your antenna?

Default satellite antenna

On the trunk lid, as recommended by the dealer and the installation instructions. Reception is best if the antenna is pointing up on the outside of the car. The wire doesn't run around any weather stripping. It involved taking out the back seat, etc.

Walt: See VaisTechnology.com for complete installation instructions. The antenna wire doesn't run around any weather stripping.

Yeah, but I read (at the Sirius site) that reception is best on the roof of the vehicle with at least 3" of roof metal on all sides of the antenna. I tried to do that by getting under the rubber up and around both the rear window and windshield to get to the roof. In addition to the reception, I would also like to discourage kids (and even knucklehead adults) from playing with/picking at the magnetic antenna - you know, by trying to put it in a less tempting place. Anyhow, I had no success. I guess I'll go the trunk route. Thanks

Try this:
do the install, except for the antenna.
Put your antenna inside on he rear shelf under back window.
If you like the result (I did, for years now), you can put the antenna inside he 3rd brake light housing, completely out of sight, and cable extremely easy to run under thresholds and under/around everythin else.
good luck.

Hmm ...... Yeah, that sounds like it's worth a shot. I'll try that. Thanks.

Question What is the 4" Rubber Roof Antena Used For?

My 01 LS430 bought used came with the stubby rubber antenna on the rear part of the roof. Is that for the Nav GPS or the Am?Fm radio or both?

What kind of external antenna does the Satellite radio use? Why can't the rubber antenna my car has be used for a Satellite radio as well with some kind of in-line coil?
