"flagellation"

You don't see that kind of vocabulary used on the Ford/Chevy forums!!!

Some people just like to see their cars go to a good home.

I felt like a game show host when I sold my 90 LS in 2003 and said things like "But wait! There's more!" to the new owner as I gave him the original window sticker, all the repair receipts since new, four extra wheels with snow tires, full set of repair manuals, and threw in a few oil filters. I even lowered the selling price of the car to match an offer I had accepted on a deal that fell through. I had grown attached to the car after 13 1/2 years and wanted to see it taken care of. As of a few months ago, the guy that bought the car was still driving it.

Yes, we need more attitudes like this and less cars-for-clunkers.

I have 4,000 miles on my current oil (Full Synthetic). I started to drain it and it didn't even look dark.

Your split of highway/local must be about 70/30 because approx 1K on local driving will blacken the oil. A car that has done 100K on highway is going to be far superior in quality than same car with 100K in local stop-n-go traffic.

It's actually more like 90/10. Home is right off the highway, along with work.

wish I could do 90/10 h/c... I do about 10/90 because the major roadways by me stink and are always crowded. Taking that is the same as doing local...

My old Civic saw a lot of highway. I did about 32K a year and that thing went to 220K with no problems. Two owners later, it's somewhere in W.Africa. Probably seeing taxi duty.

A necessary skill for a Merc owner unless he doesn't mind forking over wads of cash frequently.
When I told him I was looking for a Lexus LS430, he was offended. (Of course) And said … Yeah, the only problem with those is sludging.
LOL I guess he'll be really hurt to learn that there are NO problems with the LS430 -- not even the ONE problem he thought they had. Being a Merc owner, he probably won't be able to comprehend that though...

Not true, one big issue I've found with my LS is that I can't seem to put the keys down and take my other cars instead... I'M PUTTING ON MILES TOO FAST !!!!
