Metric and Imperial
My Canadian 2005 LS430 has a metric speedometer, metric odometer and Imperial (American) display. Is there a way to convert the display to metric, so that I am reading Lt/100km (or km/Lt) instead of miles/US gallon? Am I missing a setting somewhere. My dealer says it can't be done.
Thanks

Yes - as seen above it's just a personalised setting. US dealers sometimes charge $100 to have the settings changed in the computer. No idea what the CA dealers charge.
I've chosen to keep mine in US metric as I tend to drive there quite a lot for leisure, and my vehicle gets serviced down there as well.

Imperial to Metric Odometer conversion
We are buying a 2010 RX 350 in the US and exporting it to Canada. Have to deal with daytime running lights and have found an appropriate conversion that will not affect normal lighting system function. We would like to get the odo converted to Kilometers (and thermometer to Celsius). So far, the US dealer can offer no help. Contacted a Canadian dealer and they claimed you had to change the entire instrument cluster for a ballpark $2500.
Our long-time independent mechanic claims it should be possible to reprogram the DRL and odo/thermometer, which should take an hour and cost about $100. However, according to the Lexus service guy I talked to, Lexus Canada wants to keep the US and Canadian models distinct.
Anyone got any suggestions? Any reprogramming would have to be done by a licenced technician/shop.
Your help would be appreciated!

Not that I'm a big fan of the D/STealers but to their credit, it is not so much about the dealer but more about who you talk to.
It is always fun to hear the answers when the guy didn't understand the question. Some of them will rather say no can do instead of checking with someone qualified.

This is a really frustrating little problem. When travelling in the US I like the speedometer/odometer to read miles and when at home I like it to be in km. Even the cheapest GM cars let you convert just by pushing a button in the multifunction display. Why can't Lexus provide the same function in cars that cost twice as much? Maybe they should buy their electronics from GM!

We have a '99 RX300, which came to us from the US. It cost $500 (in 2002) to change the Speedometer from Imperial to Metric. (Speedo was $315, 2 hours of labour) While 9 years ago, gives you an idea.
