Default Parking Sensor Issue

I have a 2004 UL and my parking sensor has gone nuts. It thinks that there is something in front of the car all the time. I looked at the sensors and they look okay, but I assume one is bad. Is there a way to tell which one is the issue? Also, how do they come out?
Thanks,
Doug

Check the little screen on the dash display to narrow down the bank(left, right, or center) of sensors that is giving you trouble. Then just do the process of elimination by unplugging them one by one and see if that helps any. Now how to replace i cannot help you with. I think one of these experienced gentlemen on this forum can help you with that one.

If only it were so easy as Slvr surfr suggests!
I have same car as you. My front sensors started sending failure messages (not false contacts like yours).
My Toyota dealer tested the system on the official diagnostic tester; system tested OK.
With help from the factory manuals, I did all possible trouble shooting. The only diagnostic for the sensors is their resistance on an ohmmeter. With the help of the manuals, I figured out I could test all sensors in place via the wiring harness. All mine were OK per that test (I think it was 10 ohms). BUT:
still getting the alarms.
The manual let me know I had to remove the bumper cover for access to the sensors for replacement. What a job! But it can be done. So first I bought a couple of sensors off eBay to be my test mules for switching out experiments.
That was successful: one sensor, on the center front zone, as suggested by the display, tested fine for resistance. And it looked perfect; no dings or chips. The one next to it looked a little rough, so I thought that would be the bad sensor. First I replaced the damaged looking sensor: no joy! But when I replaced the good looking one, all was well. Continuing today many months later with that eBay sensor. I got lucky: it's black, so it doesn't look bad on my gray bumper. So I don't plan to remove the danged bumper cover again to get a perfect color matched sensor.
Not sure, but I think painting these things might be an exercise in frustration: apparently the center disc has to have "just right" amount of paint, because it is actually an ultrasonic diaphragm. Please, somebody who knows more help us with the painting issue.

Same issue on my 03 twice. Right Front sensors came one last March - just stayed on, had to shut system off. Dealer replaced both right front sensors under CPO warranty. November - center front sensors started acting up - come on almost every time I stop even though nobody in front of me. Dealer inspected last week - has ordered center front sensors - will have them replaced in next few weeks (also CPO warranty).

I had to replace one sensor under CPO...the sensors are about 255each and its I believe 1.3 hours flat rate manual to replace. You have to remove the back of the bumper to get to them. They come prepainted to the color or your car and you usually can't paint over them. Very expensive little item!
