I have a 05 Lexus with the Mark Levinson/Navigation/Radar Cruise Control package and the compass does not appear between the tach and speedo - it only has temperate outside and radar cruise control info - is it possible that it did not come with a compass? The one on the Nav only shows North -
Thanks,

If you touch the compass on the the nav screen it will change from either showing the red pointer always showing north or the other setting it will always be straight up. I use the first setting because it gives you a more accurate direction of travel on the screen.
HAHA I remember circling like an idiot for 20 minutes in a parking lot last year hoping it would pop up but realized that it was only for non Nav version after opening the manual again.
I always wanted to know this. The Compass is easier to read on the Tach than the Navi, so I'm not sure why they couldn't have thrown it on there anyway.

How can you tell if the car has laser cruise? I have a ML with levinson, and Nav, but does that necessarily meaen that mone has laser cruise? I was told that the Lexus emblem will be encased in plastic if you do, but mine is not. I don't have the original window sticker for my car, but it says radar cruise on the dealer sticker. Im thinking it might be a typo though. It seems to be regular cruise to me. Any clear but way to know? Thanks! Sorry for the thread jack, but it is kinda relevant.

On 04-06 models, I believe dynamic cruise control (laser or radar) was only available as an option on CL & UL levels. I also believe that you got the radar cruise control when you opted for the pre collision system and it included the antenna with the plastic window.

You're correct.
According to the '04 brochure, early UL and CL option packages included Dynamic Laser Cruise Control (it was located below the grille, on the passenger near the fog light).
Later UL and CL packages, included Pre-Collision System, or PCS, and have Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and it was incorporated into the Lexus "L" in the center of the grille.
PCS, according to the '04 brochure, was to be available in January 2004. So early 2004 UL & CL have "Laser" and later 2004 UL & CL models have "Radar". (Per the brochure, anyway.)

Cause they figured cars with navi wouldn't have a problem finding directions? It's already there on the navi screen. Although... it probably wouldn't be much more effort to make it an additional display (perhaps one of th scroll through displays on Display One).
When you turn on the cruise control it say radar cruise control on in the area where the temperature gauge is between the tac and speedo - it will show three car lengths - you can adjust the distance between the cars -
Just came across this on a Craigslist ad for a 2001 UL that appears to have both the dash compass and nav! Including a screenshot in case the ad expires in the near future:
