want to run aftermarket amp. quick question for audio people
i would like to run 1 amp for the replacement sub i ordered since my ML is blown and dont want to deal with ohm's. anyway people that have aftermarket amps installed did you run your power cables on the inside? if so what gauge? the panels looks very tricky to take off without damaging

i have 2 gauge i believe, which may be overkill for only a 500/1 jl sub amp but i had originally planned to do a second one on a separate jl12w6, but have yet to ever double my original setup. the shop (somewhat high end) that did the install didn't have any issues with doing this on my old gs400 or my current 05 ls. it wasn't but like $100 to install everything so just ask around ur local shops.

The gauge required depends on the power of your amp.

Just google it.

A shop did it for me. But soon I'm changing all the speakers, a sub and adding an amp to a stock one. My quote was $4500 for everything, including sound deadening the whole car. All DLS component speakers, DLS multichannel amp, Infiniti Woofer in stock place but a custom box around it in the back. Ill take pics when that will be installed at the shop.

0 gauge wiring seems overkill given the short run distances involved with wiring a car. Huge specialty connector cables and giant sized "special" speaker wire is 99.999% marketing hype.
Anyone thinking about using huge high $ cable interconnects to connect even high end electronic components needs to look inside a typical high end car amp, receiver, or inside a typical speaker enclosure.
I suggest you take a look at the inside the typical car or even house amp and see the relatively tiny wires being used internally even in the amp stages.
The craze of huge interconnects for electronics is like running a 6 inch fire hose to connect to a drinking straw.
As an example some audiophiles literally pay hundreds of $ to buy speaker wire that is literally as thick as your arm and then connect that to speaker enclosures that actually use 18-20 gauge internal wiring to the drivers and something like 30 gauge in the crossover wiring. Complete silliness in my opinion.

hmm. im gonna be running a 1300 hifonics brutus and another 1000watt (doubt rms but still) amp. 4 or 6 gauge power cable will be enough? neme posted up a link and going from that with the 2 amps i might need 2 or 0 gauge wiring...

$4500,
Like to have his wallet- Theres a waste.....
Two sets of Mb Quarts
and one Jl sub
and a 5 channel alpine digital amp
and your all set
Doesn't get much better than that-
NOW how you hook up to the factory head unit will be interesting- As that , (my friend), is your weak spot.
Please get back to us on how you plan on doing that-
Good luck with whatever you do.

A tip for you 1000 watt+ car amp guys - the people in the cars around you actually don't want to hear your music. And yes 99% of them are certainly impressed by being able to hear your high end best ever deluxe expensive music system thru their closed doors and windows - but unfortunately....not in a good way. JMHO - different strokes for different folks.

I only dropped $600 for a JL 12" sub, box, JL amp, line-out converter and wiring. They removed the old sub to make a port for more sound and did a very clean job on the wiring. They even installed a bass power **** underneath the steering wheel to adjust the power of the sub. It is more than enough bass and even though I didn't dynamat, it doesn't rattle.
