AGREE WITH YOU 100%
I notice this today. It was my first time to drive the car without worming it up. I wanted to see and do like what other members are saying. and the result was like what you said, it shifted differently. you feel like the car doesn't respond fast like when its worm.

I used to follow the "let it warm up" school of thought. Some of my friends would even wait until it reached half point (max operating temp) before driving off.
Excessive idling was never good for the engine, except for the old days of carburetors when it was necessary. Now adays with advancement in fuel deliver methods, warming up is no longer necessary.
Personally, I wait 30seconds, and maybe a minute in colder weather (<20f.) and take it easy for a couple of miles.

I don't think temp is as big of a deal as giving your engine a little time for the oil pressure to stabilize. I use the bluetooth connection alert as a time mark before moving my car at cold or hot start up.

Because its programmed to hold longer before shifting to warm up the engine.

I read an article saying the same thing about the old and new cars method.

Once you start the car, the engine is cranking hundreds of RPMs whether the tires are turning or not. A 5w30 oil is going to circulate almost instantaneously. And if you switched to synthetic like I did, assuming you buy the hype (I neither accept or reject the hype...just don't know), the oil remains bonded to metallic surfaces so it never fully loses lubrication quality b/t startups. So I always start and go. Wifey, however, has to enter a warm car. Need I say more?
