2002 LS430; Sport Suspension? Option Cost?
Hi, I'm considering purchasing the above which has a badge on the front fenders reading "Sport Suspension" which I gather is also known as the Euro-Sport packageoption or similiar. The car does handle very well and seems to negate the criticism I hear about the "soft" ride from "Car & Driver" etc. Can anyone give me more information, ie, what is included in this package, cost of the option when new? Not sure how good this is as I live in rural Michigan where the only observable difference between the farm fields and the roads have asphalt on the furrows...
Thanks,
George
ps. Car is 2002, 100,000 miles, one owner, all maintenance records and clean carfax, asking $14,750. Apparently no option packages other than suspension. Price seems decent, opinions?

IIRC, the sport suspension was a no charge option.
I've driven both and I could be happy with either, but that's just me and that's here in FL where the roads are generally straight and perfectly smooth. I think it's an individual thing and it'll be hard to take anyone else's opinon to mean much for you in your driving environment and your preferences. IMO, the complaints of the stock suspension being too soft or wallowy, or whatever, are WAAY overblown, especially if you have the factory 18's or aftermarket wheels and semi-performance tires. I think the stock suspension is just fine for what the LS is supposed to be. I wouldn't make much sacrafice of ride quality to improve at-the-limit handling on a big comfortable sedan like the LS.

Welcome! I originally thought I wanted a car with the suport suspension. I took a test drive of an 05? with sport suspension. Unfortunately, it was a very cold day and it had high speed rated tires. It was a harsh ride. (Well, as harsh as a LS430 can be, I guess.) The car would probably be fine with two sets of tires / wheels: 17" winter tires/wheels and 18" summer tires/wheels.
When taking test drives in cars with normal (non-UL, non-sport) suspension, I found the ride to be fine. Removing the requirement of finding a sport suspension car opened up a much larger choice of cars for me.
BTW, follow the FAQ thread and view the 2002 sales brochure to see what was in the sport package that year and what packages it was available with.

I could be wrong, but I have not seen any badges on the LS430 that denote the type suspension it has. Ive seen badges like sport design and pbble beach, as well as coach, but I have not seen the sport suspension badge, but that doesnt mean it doesn't exist. Be careful it's not an aftermarket suspension and some badges that he put on. You can get a badge for just about anything today, it seems. Also, if this car is a base model, I would negotiate a little on the price.

badge says SPORT SUSPENSION
Don't worry, it's not the type of badging to do on the LS where you most commonly see wienies/posers doing with the AMG and //M cars

What a fun bunch of folks! Had no idea I had stumbled over such a treasure trove of off -track joie de vivre! ....and thanks for the feedback, too.
I did a little looking on Autotrader, and there are several similiar, and lower mileage unit at or below his price.
