LS430 wood trim, is it real wood or just "wood looking" plastic?

I'm pretty sure that nothing (wax, polish, etc) is going to get through the coating and actually get to the wood itself.
One of the best things you can do to keep the wheel in shape is to drape a rag or towel over it when you park in the sun. And do NOT let anyone drive the car who has a tendency to dig their rings into the wheel. I've seen a post on here where a guy replaced 2 steering wheels (very expensive) thinking they were going bad on their own before he figured out that his wifey was digging her rings into the wood.

If they could only make the plastic/vinyl last they'd actually done something.

I think everyone here is right. I read an article once that there are 3 grades of wood or wood-look panels in cars. The highest the real thing like you find in Bentley and Rolls, heavy and solid. The middle grade is ours, genuine wood stretched in a special process over a plastic mold. The lowest is plastic like you find in Honda Accord's or Subaru's, but it does add an ambiance. Someone in one thread also mentioned that our wood parts were all commissioned by Yamaha piano co.?? Kind of cool, but I cannot verify. I can verify that the brochure for my 2004 does state "genuine" wood.
