Mine has a significant lag. Maybe about 1-1.5sec. I've had this happen in the newer S classes (W220). I believe it's just because of the transmission not being controlled by linkages, but by electronic now. Other 04-06 LS430 has done the same, but I've only test drive one other before purchasing mine. It is a bit annoying when you're in a hurry to do a 3 point turn or parking.

After reading this thread a few weeks ago I've paid more attention to how mine works (but haven't remembered to post up until now when someone bumped the thread). I'd definitely say it operates "normally" -- there isn't any noticable delay that might cause you to wonder if it's unusually long, or longer than other vehicles, which seems to be the case with some of the ones that are being described here.

noticed that the first day I drove my 05 away from the dealer,, mine has about a second pause before it decides to go,, makes no difference in what shift pattern I use,,
wife's turbo bug is almost instantaneous and if ya have the gas pedal down will really give ya a jerk,,
perhaps Lexus does this to offer a smoother transition eliminating the jerk so many cars offer,,
