Sorry, this is not true. GM routinely collects the data on service visits and compares the software checksums and other indicators to determine if the owner has reprogrammed their engine or transmission control modules. If a owner has a "tuned" module, GM will deny warranty coverage for engine or transmission problems. Folks have gone to buying an extra ECM and installing the stock unit before going in for service.

Interesting...I was always told using aftermarket chips would not void a warranty and that it was illegal for the manufacturer to deny you warranty based upon that. Maybe I need new friends :O.
