Default How do I clean the gear shifter skirt? LS430

How do I get the dirt, etc out of the little plastic skirt in the gear shift box? Does the chrome surround just pop off? I know in my ES330 the whole center console just lifted right up but this one is a bit different.
Thanks,
Keith

Do a search for ash tray replacement on this forum. There are pics in that thread showing easy removal of console top and gear selector surround. Literally takes less than 5 minutes to disassemble. That would allow you to do a thorough cleaning.

The chrome pops right off, but I think the OP wants to get into the nook and cranny of the shifter area, so he/she would have to remove the top pattern part once the chrome comes off. I think he/she needs to remove the center wood trim as well to get to the screws that hold the shifter down, the screws that hold the gate down.

I would go with easy solution... wet wipes and an air can.

I agree, if you want to do a good detailed clean its best to pull the console top so you can thoroughly the shifter trim assembly and entire console area, especially cleaning the sides of the pieces that meet to form gaps/cracks that tend to get cruddy.

This sounds like a good project for me to do when I install the console box / ashtray replacement.

Pasted from original postings-------------------------

I got mine from Sewell in Dallas online. There is a code to use for an additional discount via the Lexus club. Think it ended up at $190 or so. It literally took me 10 minutes to self install - very, very easy. There is a thread on it if you search - maybe find the code . It works great and gets rid of the ugly ashtray and lighter and replaces with a nice looking tray and powerpoint. Nobody is smoking in my car.

You need to call and give them your VIN number so they can tell you what color code to get - light or dark.

actually here is the post with the discount code -

Excellent News. I got in contact with Darrel from Sewell about a group buy.

He was kind enough to provide a direct link to the item. Now the best part...

Enter Promo Code: Baron

This will get you down from $217 to $175.

Hopefully you guys all take advantage of this so sewell will be more likely to give us additional discounts in the future for giving them bulk business.

Thanks again to Darrel.

that's exactly what I did when I changed our the cigarette lighter.

I'm still waiting for someone that wants to buy the old cigarette lighter assembly...

It was during this swap also that I found out there was no physical connection between the shifter and the transmission. Just connectors and wires...
