Default So I finally got my LS430 and have a stereo question

On Tuesday I picked up a 2002 Silver UL with chrome 17's. I will really miss my GS400 though.
Anyways I just ordered the Vais VML thanks to reading this forum.

I do have a question. On my 1998 GS400 with factory standard stereo I changed the head unit. I put in an Alpine deck, seperate amp, and upgraded all the door speakers ( can't remember what I put in, but they were about $400 for the replacement speakers and tweeters) Because I didn't have a subwoofer at the time, I just set it up for no subwoofer on the amp. I thought I would not like the sound without the subwoofer, but I really liked the way it sounded through just the upgraded speakers.

So I'm not sold on the ML in my 430. Is it possible to do what I did to my GS and retain the ML head unit? I'm thinking a better aftermarket amp and better speakers in the doors to recreate what I used to have in the GS.

Will this work? Can the ML go into the new amp? I plan on disconnecting the factory sub like I did in the GS and just running better door speakers.
I know some might think this is sacrilage, but I like the sound of my GS.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Wow 30 views and no one has replied. I must really be doing a bad thing to the stereo.

I'm also not sold on ML system. It sounds clear but limited. I put a new sub because old one didn't work from the start. Also I changed front two speakers to Infiniti Reference cause ML's were blown. Then my system started to shut down when pushed due to lack of power/overheating of stock amp. I added an additional amp just for sub and now all is ok.
I want to put a new, more powerful sub though and change front infinities to something better.
P.S. By the way you need a stock amp in order for navi to work.

thanks for the info. If I bypass the leads to the stock subwoofer and then upgrade the speakers in the doors, will that work?

What you can do is put an aftermarket multichannel amp that's powered right from the battery and run sub and two rear door speakers from it, and leave the stock amp to drive just the front speakers and dash tweeters.

aahh gotcha now.
what front speakers are you looking at?
I was at Best buy and looked at Alpine SPS-600C for the front and Infinity 2 way 6.5 in the back. I was thinking of leaving everything the same and then just upgrading the speakers. If that doesn't satisfy me then adding the amp.
What do you think?

You'll need to add the amp anyway because stock amp will overheat and blow. Better be safe than sorry. I would get the same for front and back. Make sure that all components have same ohms as ML system is 8ohms and you will likely put 4ohms. I like how DLS component speakers sound but they are expensive. Alpines are good and I would recommend component speakers over regular all in one speaker.

how to I separate the signal for the 2 back speakers and subwoofer to go into the new amp? I believe the alpines are 4 ohms so won't that be an issue for the stock amp since you say it is set for 8 ohm speakers? Won't the front speakers blow because of this?
