Sorry for digging this old thread back.

Question: has anyone been using 5w-20 long term in LS430 without negative side effect? Asking because I happen to browse Walmart and see Mobil 1 5w-20 High Mileage 12qt for $30. It may not available at every store, but that is a pretty good deal for us who do our own oil change (and without hassle of rebate). I see several of these near me but I am trying to avoid going to Walmart these days. Supposedly this come in a big container instead of individual bottles.

I ran into this this past summer. I took my Toyota Solara in to my Toyota dealer for an oil change. Upon returning home, I inspected my bill and they used 5w-20. I called the service manager and he explained to me the TSB. Since my V6 was within the TSB description I accepted his explanation but he said the TSB does not recommend the thinner oil in the V6 truck applications. What does that tell you about what Toyota thinks about the value of thicker oil in possible high stress engine applications? I also called my Lexus dealer and they said they have and will continue to use 5W- 30 engine oil in the V8's. I am sticking with what is on the oil fill cap.

I would trust Lexus engineers who developed 3UZ-Fe. Dealer may continue to overcharge their clients and perform marketing activities.
