So what exactly is leather and what is not. I have a 2002 UL and was wondering what was leather and what was plastic on the interior. Obviously the soft parts of the seats, armrests, and headrests and the leather on the steering wheel. But what else?

door panels and the bottom half of your dash is leather. Your headliner is suede.

Suede is a type of leather too. On the LS, anything not a molded plastic is leather. No synthelear or pleather on the LS baby, it's all real dead cow skin.

On other Lexus' (i.e. RX, there are syn. leather inserts on door), so not all Lexus' are built the same.

Why do you ask? Looking to make a jacket?

I once had a friend who would challenge street vendors on the streets of NY who were selling "leather" and "suede" jackets. He asked them if they were real leather. They insisted "Yes".

He asked them if he could try a simple test - Would they let him light a match; then blow it out; and then immediately press the hot, burned-out matchstick to the jackets "leather" sleeve. If genuine leather, it would do no real damage to the item, but if vinyl - well .....

He didn't get many takers.

The entire seats, glove box, console, armrest, and doors are leather. The headline is "Alcantara" synthetic suede. The dash and matching covering on the doors above the wood is not leather.

I forgot to mention that the handles of the grabs above each door is also leather.

thanks... Just used Zaino for the first time... we'll see if my car has that leather store smell in the morning! keeping my fingers crossed.

I was just checking to make sure i wasn't mistaking a hard panel of plastic for a wrapped leather hard piece.
Leather jacket? I could just see someone ordering a leather jackect to match their upholstry
