LS Withdrawal
I can't wait to go to work tomorrow. More accurately, I can't wait to drive to work. I realized that I haven't driven my LS since coming home Thursday:
Friday: Foot was acting up, so I worked from home. Ran out with the truck over dirt roads to a carry-out place to pick up dinner.
Saturday: We went out in the Allante with the top down and later in the truck so my wife could practice entries with a step. (It looks like I'm going to have to find something somewhat tall to replace the truck. She did OK.)
Sunday: Ready to go out in the LS, but realized that the gas can for the garden tractor is nearly empty. Whoops, out we go in the truck again.
Woohoo! I've got a whole week of commuting in the LS coming up.

Driving the LS is definately an addictive pleasure and the word withdrawal is accurate.
Sometimes I find I want to drive it even after riding in friend's vehicles or when it has sat for as little as a day or two.
Some people think I'm crazy when they ask me what I'm up to on any given afternoon and I respond "going driving in the sun!"

Hahaha. I vacationed in florida for a little under a week recently, and experienced the same "withdrawal". Of coarse you want to return to the home and family, but most of all, the LS :-D

Tell me about withdrawl!!! I was supposed to DRIVE cross country (we all remember THAT thread..lol). I was in Texas without ANY car for 30 days (on a self sustaining Air Force base), and now I am in Seattle/Tacoma with a p.o.s. rental car. I have about 50 days left until I'm back home.
Here in Sea-Tac, The rental agency originally told me I was authorized a compact car, and Thrifty's compact car at Sea-Tac airport was a CHRYSLER PT CRUISER!
I told them to shove that up their you know what..and give me the next available upgrade. I'm now driving a 4-cyl Ford Escape, which is almost as bad a p.o.s.....
Meanwhile, my girlfriend drives my car 1x a week on sunny days. She IS keeping it in her garage though. It's funny---she's said a lot of people "check her out" in the LS. I'm wondering if it's her bad driving, the car, or who's behind the wheel.

Yep a few days in a rental car always make me appreciate driving a nice car like a LS430. Makes me wonder what these folks are thinking that actually buy and drive the crap boxes around. Life is both way too short, and way too long, to be driving a crap box full time. I understand about economizing but for me at least my car is not where I cut corners. I'd rather bring a bag lunch every day but roll up carrying it in in a nice LS : )

Im amazed at how the LS ages myself, as well as when I havent driven for a while. So smooth and refined. Not a sporty drive like a Benz or BMW nor Audi/Jag but, a smooth cool ride that to this day makes me smile. This has turned out to be a great purchase though cars aren't investments that money is made from, the better the car the less it cost you to own.
Yes, I could have gotten another cheaper car that is reliable, a Toyota Camry or Avalon would have sufficed but, the small extras a LS provides are worth it. When I go a week or two without driving its funny how BIG the car seems. When Im regularly driving I notice less and less how great the car is. I guess the longer we dont drive our cars the more it supplies time to appreciate them more. Owned a couple Benzes and the name is seen as pure luxury, all I know is at 106,000 miles Ive had very few issues outside of regular services. Yes, the price is a bit on the steep side as the years go by but, it has cost no money to fix items that shouldnt break or fail. All the issues were paid for by the warranty and the other repairs have been all regular wear and tear.
Never imagined I'd own this car past 100,000 miles but, its a reliable car and payed for, what more can a business owner ask for, dependability! L.G.N.M

Withdrawal - yes! I've been on vacation driving a 31' motorhome and a 2005 Malibu Maxx (towed vehicle) for over a week and it was a JOY to get back home and just see "Lex"! Tonight will drive him and can't wait...

Felt the pain too
As I was driving my rental car around Utah on business last week, I recalled this thread and became sympathetic to the situation. I asked the Avis people at least 3x what category my tiny little Nissan Sentra belonged to. Each time they stated it was an Intermediate. Shocking! Anyway, after having this car in my possession for a few days, i began to wish i had my LS430. I missed the seating position for every possible angle, the UV protected glass, and the power to climb the steep sections of the freeway. Glad 'm back home... even more glad that my LS 430 fired up after sitting in the garage for a week

LS430 to a Sentra is quite the change.... Thankfully only temporary! Enjoy your reunion!
Upon seeing this thread updated today I remembered my own recent withdrawal story, although it was a shorter separation than others' posted above.
I wanted to replace my shocks before leaving on a monthlong roadtrip into British Columbia tomorrow. I ordered them from Sewell and found a local Toyota specialist to install them.
The shop is in the rougher north side of town and I had 5 hours to kill while it was being worked on. Not wanting to inconvenience any friends or family I decided to find my own way to the large mall in the west end. This involved walking 2 miles to the main corridor where the public transit ran.
On my way to the mall and back I reconnected with my sociology major in observing the people and behaviour in this area of town. In daylight and with low violence rates I felt safe at all times but it was an eye opener. I minded my own business and was dressed down.
Among the things I saw were:
1. A drunk homeless woman stripping for two homeless men in a park
2. A man selling stolen shoes and clothing on the bus
3. Police speeding to a 7-11 and arresting an armed robber
4. A drunk man taking 3 garbage bags of bottles on the bus to the bottle depot
5. A woman asking every passenger on the bus if they had any drugs
But more importantly I saw:
6. People who were friendly and proper despite enduring inner city hardship
7. People who appeared truly happy with far less than what I have
8. People trying their best in difficult circumstances
9. Another world that many are living in which made me very grateful
So needless to say when I got back into my LS I had gone full circle in an afternoon. The windows went down a little, the sunroof was opened, the music was turned up and the headlamps went on in the daytime just for the heck of it. The LS usually accompanies a certain degree of comfortable living. The withdrawal was from the car and that comfort, things I found I had been taking for granted. So I hope everyone is enjoying their LS this summer to the fullest!

LS to Sentra is like ordering a 12 oz. filet mignon with broiled lobster tails and the waiter coming back to the table with a 10 oz. salisbury steak and boiled jumbo shrimp... ugh....
