Without complete service records it is a gamble I would not want to be on the down side of. Price way high, sport package may be nice but suspension is probably getting pretty soft anyway with these miles unless you know otherwise. 15 g's can buy alot of car with less miles.

It hasn't seen the dealer since 80K. If it were me I'd keep looking. Figure it's going to need the timing belt changed, fluids, etc..

$15k for 138,000 miles is absurd - run in the other direction.

If you go in for service without a reservation, and all the loaner vehicles are spoken for, they will put you in a rental. The one time lexus doesn't roll out the red carpet. They will pay for the base rental car. My tech who does my work was telling me how funny it is to watch a Well dressed man putting his things into a Hyndai Accent from his $70K car.
One of many cool stories from when he worked at the Lexus dealership

I also vote no based on the lack of service history.

I'm looking at an 01 LS430 with Nav with almost 100K for $13,000, but has all the service recorrds(timing belt changed) since new as well as the right color combo(Silver/Grey). It's not easy trying to get a "great deal" on these cars as they do seem to hold their value and the really exceptional ones go very fast.

I just got my 01 LS 430 for 11750 two weeks ago. The ML sub is blown, so I'm happy I got them to knock off the 250 from $12k. Its a fair price, and your right they do go fast. This is my third LS. My 92 had 267,000 when totalled. My '95 had only 134,300 when totalled two weeks ago. LUTHOR #3 only has 106,300. Ok that was two weeks ago, know 107K.....
The 430 is a different car. I have been told this but WOW....

I drove a 2000 LS400 the other day and can honestly say that in comparison to the LS430 it is night and day. The LS430 is considerably more substantial and drives like a big luxo car should.

If the car has complete service history and is in great shape than it could be a fair to good deal with 100k or over depending on the price. With no or big gaps in service history I'd avoid a high mile car. If you do buy one with little or no service history don't pay a dollar over average wholesale value, and expect some repair bills.

With the 01 LS430 I'm looking at, I did find one 3 year gap on service history when the car changed ownership (from son to mother) which equated to 1800 miles per year. How much trouble occurred in less than 6,000 miles in 3 years? Regardless, the last service (May 2010) was at the original Lexus dealership for everything including timing belt. I'm very confident when buying a car that has a zillion visits to Lexus every 5,000 miles of which almost all of them read either 5,000, 15,000, or 30,000 mile service. I even have one for 60,000! Going to look at this car on Wednesday.

There are plenty cars out there to choose from. Although these cars are pretty reliable, why not get one with that extra care that keeps it going for that many more trouble free miles?
