Hello everyone!
I have a leak on a 2001 lexus ls 430. The leak is coming from one of the smaller lines that goes towards the back end of the car. Right around the driver side rear tire. The dealer wants to charge me $1600 to replace the line that only costs $167. Apparently there is a lot of hours of labor. The car has the ultra luxury package. Is that rear ac line only for the cooler box? If i cut off the rear ac line, will there be a problem?

That line is for the complete rear a/c system, which includes the separate vents above each rear door. I'd get it fixed if it were me. Half an a/c system doesn't sound like a Lexus to me.

This is the part of Luxury car ownership people dont take into account. Its not just the price you pay to buy these cars, its the upkeep! Sorry its so pricey but, once fixed your ok for years. Its the price paid for buying a Lexus as opposed to a Nissan Sentra(nice car by the way no disrespect intended)! I tell people who ask can I sell them my car this very thing, the cost to upkeep is sky high! If it were me like jayclapp, Id pay for the repair either at the dealer or a reputable auto AC repair company.
Shouldnt be hard to find a qualified spot or mechanic that will charge less for labor. If you buy the part and find a company or mechanic that will do the labor that can save you plenty. Just a thought to combat the pricey cost at the Lexus dealer, they are price jackers!!! L.G.N.M
