Glove Box, Center Console, and Door/Window Switches
The glove box (upper and lower) and center console each have 3 chip SMD LEDs on a single circuit board that light up amber in color. These can be replaced by soldering in different color chip SMD LEDs (like super bright white). The size of these chip SMDs is 1206 (0805 will work also, but they are quite smaller than 1206). The switch light that light faint green can also be replaced by soldering new chip SMD LEDs, in which these leds are also mounted on a circuit board. The size is also 1206.

I have used the 0805 chip SMD LEDs super bright white at 250mcd, though the correct size is 1206.
Inner Door Handle Lights, Driver/Front Passenger Footlights, and Upper Center Console Lights (those 2 lights that shine above the shifter)
These also require soldering. The inner door handle lights and footlights use 3mm LEDs bulbs and the upper center console uses 5mm LEDs.

Garage Door Buttons and Memory Seat Buttons
These were also replaced with the same method as above using the same 3mm LED bulbs super bright white replacing the faint green LED. Each number requires its own bulb.

If anyone is interested, I am working on changing the green and amber lights of the front driver assembly (the green light on the coin tray, switches, and such), steering wheel control lights, the lights that motohide had done, and even the climate control.

I dont have nav. But I remember the air con unit used smaller leds than the radio unit.
I only took a picture of the radio when I had it apart and it looks like 5mm leds to me. The air con controls use 3mm.

OK, so I really hate having to ask the stupid questions but could someone please help me understand how to differentiate the various options.
For example; I'd like to get brighter light out of my fog lamps. I know I can use size 9006, 9012 or HB4 (are they synonymous, or, if not, what's the difference?). I'm currently looking at three different sources;
ExtremeBrightLEDs - TWO XENON HID WHITE 9006 9012 HB4 68-SMD LED Fog Lights ($39.99)
Wardenjp - HB4 9006 18 Power SMD LED bulbs (Xenon White) ($12.49)
LegalLights - 9006 HID XENON 10k ($149.99)
The LegalLights kit includes ballasts, which I assume accounts for the major cost difference. Can I assume that I already have ballasts installed (and if not, aren't the other two listings above not doing me any good because they are just the bulbs?). I assume the cost difference between the ExtremeBrightLEDs price and Wardenjp is the number of SMP's per bulb. If so, is the size (9006, 9012, HB4) more a statement of dimension,volt/amp and base design than brightness? And finally, I thought HID was a bulb filled with Xenon gas, whereas LEDs are solid devices. And if I have that correct, then how can there be an HID LED?
Of the three listings above, which would be the brightest? Which would you LED veterans be leaning towards?
BTW, I've got an 02 LS 430 UL. I'm also looking to replace backup, trunk, puddle and dome/map lights, but figure once I get past my 'duh' moment with the fog lamps, I'll be able to figure the rest out on my own. Thanks...

Thanks. Do you mind if I ask why? Not questioning you, just trying to learn this technology. Option 3 is the only one which includes ballast and is also more than three times as expensive. Are the OE fogs standard lighting and therefore no ballast, meaning options 1 and 2 won't work on their own for me?
