Default Lonely Lexus or King of the Garage

Now that I sold the Allante and Dakota, the Lexus is all alone in the garage / driveway. I don't know if it's feeling lonely out there or glad to be rid of the riff-raff. I'm looking for a used Subie Outback for a winter driver. There better not be any turf wars when the new ride comes home eventually.

I want to have a utility-type vehicle for hauling dirty loads, the dog, etc. Since I sold the RWD Dakota I figured I'd upgrade to an AWD winter driver. I drive about 27-30K miles per year, so I like to divide the miles between two vehicles. I also hate subjecting the interior and exterior of my "nice" car to the salt and slush.

Another SUV suggestion is a used 03-06 Toyota 4Runner or an 03-06 Honda Pilot. They are selling fairly cheap down here.

I think both of those are too tall for my wife to enter without a step. I suspect that during chemo, she won't always have the strength or coordination to negotiate a step. If she can't turn and sit on the seat, it won't meet our immediate needs. That's one big advantage of the Outback.

Easy, move to California .......... Hmmmmm, then again that opens up a whole new can of worms but sure makes for eliminating the negative weather problem.

The Forester ride is more choppy due to the short wheelbase. She tends to get carsick, so smooth is the way to go.

Hate to suggest it...but the new Sienna with the power lifting middle row option? Would go great having your LS in the same garage with it's bigger, uglier, cousin vehicle :P

It's no longer lonely in the garage: 07 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited wagon, 40K miles, no issues, from a private party for $16.3K. This was the trade-in price he was offered six months ago, but hadn't been able to sell the car since then. It didn't help that he listed it on CL as a Legacy wagon. While this was still technically correct until the 2008 model year, most folks (including me) don't think to search for "Legacy" when shopping for an "Outback". Yesterday, the owner lowered his price to the amount offered for trade-in six months ago and thought to put "Outback" in the title. It popped up on my search last night and I was there at 8:00 AM this morning for a test drive and to leave a deposit. When he went in to scan the sales agreement, he said he had already received 5 emails about the car. Not surprising since the KBB for private party, good condition is over $19K. They look happy together in there.
