Some old guy gave me a dirty look this morning..

hahahahahahahha nice. i remember distinctly getting the look with my first Lexus....a '95 Renaissance Red SC400 with stock chrome wheels when I was 21. That car was HOT! Young guys wanted to race me all the time. I got a lot of tickets. lol. That was 11 yrs ago. Now I'm on to a Black on Black 04 LS430 UL and either I don't get the looks anymore, or I'm too wrapped up in thought to notice. (32 yrs now)

Everytime I am at the Lexus dealer, all the old folks that drive ES or GS ALWAYS give me dirty looks. My theory is they work hard their entire life and still can't afford a LS or SC like mine, and I am half their age
Hey it is not my fault that you don't know how to buy used car, grandpa! My LS/SC cost less then your ES and is 3 times as nice

So after a lifetime of being stupid and too lazy to do the work and research to buy smart, they are reduced to driving a crap box car (which they paid too much for like everything else). Then they see someone like you driving a 3-7 year old mint looking LS, and can't help themselves but make lots of wrong assumptions and be completely jealous and resentful.
In some cases they will see a person driving a really clean 2001 LS 430 (10 years old!) that cost $15K and they are still pissed even though the used LS might have cost 35-50% less than their 2009 Chrysler Sebring crapbox.

Let them think that I paid 70k+ for my Lexus while they paid 16k for their Sebring.
Although the point may not be having people think that you paid 70k for a car, it is the point that you ARE driving a 70k car. That's why we bought them new or used.

when i was looking for my car all dealers wanted 22-24k for 01-03 430LS with under 85k mi, clean title and spotless inside and out. in classifieds they were going for 15-19k for same condition. I ended up picking up mine from a whole seller in miami for 12k (AND it came with 90k service and brand new Lexus floor mats delivered to my house)

I know exactly what you mean. I'm 22 as of Aug, currently a med school student. My LS430 sticks out like a sore thumb in that parking lot (though mercifully there are other students with nice cars). I get looks, on and off campus. Had the 430 since I was 20 (almost 21 at the time), had an 07 BMW 328i sedan before that and a 95 BMW 530 before that so I've been getting funny looks for a few yrs.
Recently, I was driving my grandfather's 08 BMW 528xi (in a very normal and well-behaved manner I should add) and this middle aged couple pulled up next to me at the stoplights in a new-ish Chrysler Sebring. Both the man and the woman turned around in their seats and were glaring at me....I just lul'ed. Reminds me of a kid here with a modded BMW 135i and a plate that says 'UMADBRO' haha.
That said, I usually get complements, esp at car washes. One of the service reps that works at my local dealer is in love with my 430 lol.

^ ^ ^ i can only imagine. but if we don't get over it quick we are gonna get left even further in the smoggy dust
i take it for granted where i live and play at, but am often reminded of the real world whenever i travel to smaller areas. i was in Ft. Gordon area (augusta GA) earlier in the year and i am glad i didn't take my car down there. i even took off my fancy watch (its real BTW) at one bar and started dressing down (not that i'm a flashy dresser at all in my opinion; for where i live) the rest of the time i was there. it seemed like if you had a clean hair cut, a nice shirt, nice watch, and a flashy car, that you were either a drug dealer, or some lucky *** entrepreneur... i came to the conclusion that i kept ending up by myself at clubs and bars that didn't have many white guys (if any), especially that were 'fancy', and that this area was not for me,,, although the clubs downtown were pretty cool
i actually got singled out at one night club and patted down extensively, then i got asked repeatedly if i was a cop once inside. bearded white guy = suspicious apparently
but yeah, there are a lot of places outside of the dc area that have some low income places. life is supposedly really tough lately, i am so very fortunate that i do not have to struggle; at the moment.
