I may be wrong, but I have a feeling there was a tinge of sarcasm within that post. LOL.

LOL possibly. I am cramming for a paper right now and am very tired. I just realized how much reading I have left...thank god this is only a first draft. The class I am cramming for is actually on humor (form past literature), maybe he can help me write my paper lol...

These trees require dynamite to harvest and are harder to form than the sentences Paris Hilton attempts.

Doc
That explains a lot. My original ashtray cover must have been scratched repeatedly by the previous owner's diamond engagement ring. Nothing else could have marred that polymerschiztastic material. I also understand that bug guts don't adhere to the material and it was originally proposed for use on outside mirror housings and front bumpers. However, focus groups nixed the idea of woodgrain styling on the LS exterior.

Lexus use real wood. Someone has actually sand off the surface of a 2GS wood trim when someone asked the same question in an old thread. He saw wood grain inside, and posted pictures, so it is real wood.

I got my information by calling Lexus and asking. I wanted to know how to clean and protect it. They said I should just use wax as if I were waxing the exterior.

It depends on what you have. There was an option (except on the UL on which I believe it was standard) for a leather dash-top, but most LS430s just have a soft vinyl/plastic material up there.

That is unfortunately, the first thing my fellow car guy friend noticed when he got into my car. He made the accurate observation that the dash material on my old '98 LS400 seemed to be of higher quality and he was right.

I asked the original question about the wood because I took a buddy for a drive and he asked me if it was real wood. I said yes, and he said no, lol. I don't really care, it looks great.

But I have never, in 35 years, seen a car's top dash turn out so poorly after I put Armoral on it ... so I thought maybe its not plastic .... but I have a basic LS430 so I am a bit stumped. I tried cleaning with Lexol leather cleaner and it still not looking right.

Nothing serious, really, but kind of interesting.

I've waxed the wood in my 1992 SC400 since I bought it new in 1991 and it still looks perfect. I expect the same quality in the LS430. I see no reason to do anything different than just waxing.
