K&N spends huge dollars advertising and promoting their filters - you will not find a single independent study that backs up their claims. But having said that lots of smart folks use K&N filters. Personally I think the K&N oiled filters are antiquated over-hyped BS but like previously posted if properly maintained they seem to work OK. . Over oiled K&N filter will ruin your MAF on the LS430, under oiled and it will not filter small particles properly....why bother ?

I use good quality OEM style oil and air filters (mostly Wix). I like tinkering with my cars so I regularly check the cabin filter and the engine filter and lightly shop vac it and clean the the air box about over 3 months and replace the filter once a year.

i have been using the k&n filter sence i posted this last year.i take it out every 5k miles and tap it on a flat surface to loosen up the dirt.havent had any issues yet and havent oiled it yet.i ordered a k&n filter for my 86 mr2 today.

Thank you all for keeping this discussion civil. Discussions of air filters (K&N especially) have the potential to unleash even more venom than discussions of 04-06 LS430 transmission fluid changes.
