430 or 460 (The Mother thread.)

I too think the 430 is the better car, but still the 460 is on the whole a much better car in it's own right than most everything else out there.
I've never driven one but I've sat inside one and it doesn't feel "special" like my 430 does...however, I didn't realize my 430 was special at first either. I did notice that the fit and finish isn't quite as good. Sure it's more modern, but not as luxurious IMO.
We all know Toyota quality slipped around the 06-07 years, while the LS430 was designed and engineered in the late 90s, which was the peak of the Toyota/Lexus quality years.
Any Lexus LS is a great car, but still, I have seen the general consensus on here that the 460 isn't quite the beast the 430 was.
I sort of look at it this way:
Go back to say 2005. I remember then the Lexus LS was pretty much cream of the crop in the luxury field. Versus what.. The cut rate W220 S class? The mess of a BMW 7 series?
The LS held its own then....as well as the fact that the replacements for its competition caught up big time with their subsequent redesigns....
Cut to now, and the LS460 (as sucky as it is to say this) isn't even on my radar if I were in the market for a new superlux sedan. The new 2013 definitely got my attention and has some really nice stuff, but it's still just the same car. My pick would be an S550, no questions asked. I really don't know what Lexus is doing; hopefully they have a huge trick up their sleeve with the next generation because this 460 hasn't been nearly the car (just in general and "on the radar") that the other ones were.

I think we should all hold on to our LS 400 and 430's for as long as possible because the generation of the nice luxury soft plush comfortable rides are fading fast. The demand is high for stiff suspension better handling uncomfortable rides with high performance engines. The new generation of car buyers apparently race their cars on slalom courses every day I guess lol. Look at the changes they have made to luxury sedans over the last 30 years. Luxury should mean just that....LUXURY (meaning high class looks, stying and comfortability, like driving on a cloud)...not high performance this or that. Look at the Rolls Royces and Bentleys these days, even those have drifted away from luxury. The new generation of Luxury cars is not the same as it was years ago. The LS is the closest you will get to an old generation luxury car as the true meaning of luxury in the new generation vehicles is fading away. That being said I will need to hold on to my car as long as possible to enjoy the true meaning of what luxury is all about...

What happened to the 1971 Cadillac Sedan De Ville type of luxury cars??...lol..thats the ultimate luxury cruising type of car. Smooth, plush, glide on a pocket of air ride. You may scrape the door handles on the turns lol, but you wont even feel the largest of speed bumps at 60 mph. Lets bring these type of cars back!!

The same people that think more and more gears in a trasmission is better are the same that look at raw hp numbers. They look down a spec sheet looking for atleast 300hp, 6 speeds and when they see 400 hp and 8 speeds it's some dream vehicle. The 460 gained 100 hp and 2 speeds over the 430 just to be .5 sec to 60 mph better. Hemmmm...

ABC is NOT on every S Class. You are thinking of Airmatic. ABC is an option on the S550, not available on the S350, and only standard on the S600, S63 and S65 models.

If I wanted HP I wouldn't be caring about MPG. When I had my 582hp Evo, I got about 27mpg highway and when I didn't beat on it probably got more out of her. The 460's and 600's are starting to grow on me though. I still enjoy my 430 though. Drove 500+ miles in it the past week or so....loved it!!

I don't imagine an S class rides any better than a Lexus LS. The body roll thing, yes, but I doubt ride wise there's much difference.

Btw I daily drive a 05' LS430 UL that I love to death. I am not a Benz fanboy. I just tell it like it is. I still prefer to own my LS430 though, much cheaper to own in the long run then an AMG S-Class.

Ya the UL's ride is pretty supreme. Everyone comments on it when they drive with me.
I do want to try a ABC equipped S class at some point...the 2014 is looking enticing from the spy shots.

would you guys jump on a ls460 from a ls430 if given a chance?
i cant decide. I was looking for a ls460 for about 30k as my DD, but i keep coming back to 04+ ls430. I know they looked dated compared to ls460s but the interior of the ls430 is superior in my opinion.
So i ask you guys would you trade on a ls460 if given a choice? i am having a tough time deciding.. i have a low miles ls430 that i might get or have a ls460 in sight as well. I like them both my mind says get the new one but heart says ls430..lol what is wrong with me. The price difference is about 7k between them but the LS430 has under 50k miles and ls460 has 70+k miles
