Low fuel light stays on
Hi all.I am new here and have read many posts about my Lexus and the members here are very informative and helpful so I hope to contribute as I continue to drive and experience my car.I just purchased a 2004 LS430 U/L Package and so far it has performed great! The problem I am having recently with my 430 is the low fuel light came on but I have a full tank of gas.Has anyone experienced this prob and if so what can I do to rectify this?Thank you all......steve

Sounds like the "low fuel" sensor has stuck contacts. Not sure about Lexus but in most cars this is triggered when the float for fuel level drops below a set point and the contacts close triggering the light. It sounds as if the contacts did not open after filling the tank. I personally believe in the "if the hammer your using doesn't work, get a bigger hammer" philosophy. Try tapping on the float assembly to try and break loose the contacts.

The Chevron Techron is a good product as mentioned but be sure to buy only the one that says concentrated on the bottle. Maybe at this point a double dose. Often the fuel gauge sending units in all types of vehicles are effected by sulfur which is in the fuel. Some times the techron or other strong fuel system cleaners will clean the float on the sending unit so that it will work properly again. If not, then a replacement of the sending unit might be required. On most modern cars, they are attached to the fuel pump which is located in the gas tank.

I added a bottle of fuel injector cleaner before I had the light come on so I wonder if that is what trigger it?I will try the chevron and see if that helps....I will also check the distance till empty mode and see what it says...It really doesnt bother me that the light is stuck on as I always fill it up when its on a 1/4 tank...I know the previous owner used to run the car until it got very low on gas so I wonder if that had anything to do with it?....Thanks for all the great suggestions.....
