There's the key sentence to this whole discussion. Minimise the risk as much as possible, keep alert, practice avoidance measures.

I moved across town recently in part because of how bad my local drivers were. After having my and my wife's cars driven into when they were parked outside my house 3 times in 6 weeks, and after three separate accidents in the space of 10mths where my cars were merged into and heavily damaged (one was a total loss) by people who are paying attention to everything BUT the other cars around them I had to get away.
I drive close to the posted limits for the most part, going a bit over on the highways. Pick your times and places carefully, watch the other guy closely, and maintain your own skills and you will likely be fine. I used to do some crazy stuff back in my teens and twenties but let me say one thing: Out of the many incidents in my 20years of driving, not one occurred when I was speeding or doing something most would consider stupid. They were all at low speeds, surrounded by other commuters.

I've taken my LS to the 131mph limiter numerous times. All of them were on the highway which was almost empty to fully empty. At 131mph everything is smooth as butter with minimal road and wind noise - feels like you're literally flying - amazing experience. Of course I have good tires that are speedbalanced, both hands on the steering wheel and all focus on the road + music is off.

Not to beat this thread like a dead horse but I drove a 04 Audi A8 same year as my LS today.

I would trade that car for mine in a heartbeat if the maintanence costs where not so high. I must of taken the A8 for a 45 minute test drive throwing that thing here and there around corners, easily 30 over the limit, like no tomorrow and it was rock solid. I feel this type of driving is way more dangerous than just driving fast straight to feel sheer power. The A8 does that well also but not as quiet and tranquil. The A8L seemed to have weaker acceleration but not by much. With the A8 you feel invincible, a timebomb waiting to happen!

If you have not, you have to drive the A8 just for the fun of it. #1 it just feels alot lighter than the LS and the Quattro system makes you stick to the road.

Has been better so far... *touch wood* where I am now isn't as congested, the roads are wider, and more of them are divided. Safer all 'round.

My friends do come around more now...funny that.

Oh,and I called my insurance company today and changed my address on my policies...which went down by almost half from one suburb to another in the same city. Scary huh?

I'm not surprised .... in Canada your postal code (zip code) affects your policy cost.

In case you didn't know...
The speed rating on tires means that tire is safe to go at that speed for six hours, not instantaneously. Keep good rubber, though, especially in the wet!

I was reading tire rack and in their wet track tests the car with tires at 4/32 came to a "panic stop" when the car with 2/32 tread was still going 44 MPH. I do not recall the starting speed.

Warm, could you rephrase your post, please? I don't quite understand it. Were both cars trying to come to a stop at the same time and the 2nd car was at 44 mph when the first car came to a stop?
