Soldering is not required - it worked for me without any soldering - so this is not hearsay. After removing the wheel :

1. Do not remove the connections from either side of the sensor.
2. Simple cut the wire at a convenient location (without removing any ties)
3. Remove an inch of the plastic insulation from the sensor wire that has been cut. (Preferably on the side connecting to the car and not to the brake pad )
4. Simply intertwine them together
5. Cover the intertwined end with some insulation tape.

So no need to remove the wire and worry about re-routing it properly. The next time I change the pads, I'll simply discard the wire part connecting to the brake pad.

Hope this helps

Default Wear Wire patch

Your article was very informative and visual I'll go to the junk yard and see If I can get lucky and find a Lexus that was totaled on the driver side. Thanks

According to NAPA's website, the sensor wire is available for the wife's 2005 LS430 for only $11.09 (online) plus shipping/handling. NAPA charges $7.95 for UPS shipping. That's cheaper than I've seen anywhere.
