LS 430 Ultra as sports car?
#17
I remember the braking distance on the ls430 listed as being as good or better than all except the true sports cars of it's day. I am assuming this means it has a pretty serious suspension geometry hidden behind the pollowie stock shocks and struts. if the LS had comparable springs, struts and tires, is there any reason it couldn't go toe to toe with a bmw 5 series around corners?

It remind me of that time I drag raced a S2000 from 0-100 before with my bone stock LS430, exact same result, smoked him by 2 car lengths off the line from 0-40, then it slowly catch up, by 100 he was 1/2 car length behind me
Those torque less Honda are so slow off the line

S2000
I have never seen that video before, thanks for sharing!

Then again, straight line is just one dimension... on a mountain road, the S2000 would probably lose the LS430 easily.

I think the stock S2000 was like 6.0s or so off the line, and that's if you're perfect on your clutch work. Catch a bad driver and add .5s or so and the LS430 is way ahead. LS430 automatic, 5.9s all the time. Mash the gas and go. Although, the 01-03 LS430 was I think 6.3 to 60mph... so a good driver on a S2000 could beat you.
Of course, that's for sure

Your talks about the S2000 reminds me of my high school days (with the 97 Lincoln in my sig). I once had this older guy (mid 30s-40s) in a Miata with a fart can (it was gross). Once the light turned green I floored it, he floored it. I moved away from him from a dig as though he was still in neutral. It was so bad I felt embarrassed for him. He looked so confident at the stoplight, but quickly turned off the street halfway through so he wouldn't have to face me at the next light. There was also a time last yr where a guy in his 40s with a riced out Civic (looked like a targa) tried to race me in my 3 series. I smoked him everytime but he hung in there till I had to turn. No one in a really underpowered car has tried to take on the LS430 yet...though it's only a matter of time. I did play around with an Infiniti FX, very quick for an SUV.
EDIT: Yes I forgot to add this earlier. I have a good friend (a buddy of mine in the research lab I volunteer at) has a new Nissan Sentra. We both like cars and went for some spirited runs. He disappeared pretty quickly needless to say...

CarGuy89,
Yeah most people that never own a highend luxury car don't know they are actually fast, especially cars like the LS430 that doesn't look fast at all.
I edged out a E39 540i by 1 car length from 20-80 today in my SC430, I was surprised since I wouldn't think I would be ahead, it was a close run though. I know both cars have similar power/torque from a 4.3/4.4L V8, similar weight. I was happy with the outcome

I'd especially be interested in a comparison with the engine and traction controls at normal driving versus all them in as sport a mode as they'll handle.
Reason I'm asking is that I've had some *great* fun pushing my little ultra around some mountain roads and experienced quite some g forces before the all-season "ultra handling" tires even began to squeal! I was amazed.

I used to race cars and I had to push the 430 once or twice to see how it behaves. Sport mode or not, like the others said... This is NO SPORT car. Even with TRAC off, the traction control still kick in as soon as the rear gets light. I mean - the dash lights up like a xmas tree, audible alarms, the ABS are pulsing and the throttle is fading out until the car stops (literally).
The computer in this VIP ride has only one thing in mind -SAFETY! It will try everything in its limited power to keep the car under control.
I'm glad you had some *great* fun with the little squealing. This probably has much *sport* as the car can give. And since you easily get exited, the car will help you to stay on the road if you ever get too exited. But don't expect miracles, you will still end up in the ditch if you go straight in a curve ;-)
