Default How much did you guys pay for your 90K major tune up?

My 2001 LS430 has recently past 90K, so I assume it needs the 90K major tune up. I have no idea how much it should cost, so I was wondering how much did you guys pay for your major tune up? And was it done at the dealer or elsewhere? Thanks.

It's more than just a tune-up: replacing the timing belt is the major cost. While the pieces are off the engine to replace the belt you should consider replacing all the belts and hoses, the timing belt tensioner pully and spring and the water pump.

My usual recommendation is to get a price quote from a local Toyota dealership. Usually far cheaper than a Lexus dealership. Wife's LS always goes to a Toyota dealer for regular service-----Lexus dealer for warranty repair.

1200$ at dealer ^ ^ ^. just my guess but for 1200 i doubt the dealer would be replacing the water pump and timing belt, 1200 sounds just like the regular 30k interval service plus spark plugs.

Default It isn't cheap for a 90k service

Well I did my TB and water pump this past summer and parts alone cost $527.20. This was OEM parts from internet discounters. Dealer cost would have been $800 or so.

Its at least a 4-5 hour job for a pro so at least $700-800 for labor alone.

My guess is $2,000-2,200 at the dealer is reasonable. You should insist they replace all the parts below as most of the cost is the labor and it doesn't make sense to skimp by reusing old parts.

9091602586 Serpentine Belt $35.89
1354050030 Belt Tensioner 38.82
135030F010 TB Idler Pulley Left 61.43
135050F010 TB Idler Pulley Right 61.19
1356809070 Timing Belt 37.60
161005927583 Water Pump 98.72
9091603100 Thermostat 13.27
1634650010 Thermostat Gasket 3.00
9676135035 O-Ring 7.97*
9676124019 O-Ring 7.40*
00272-SLLC2 Toyota Coolant 3 gallons 75.36*
82194 Permatex FIPG RTV 6.49#

Taxes Shipping and Handling 80.06

Total Parts and Supplies $527.20

* Purchased at local dealer, the rest purchased at www.parts.com

I had the Yota dealer do the belt for 650 and the dealer would have been 850. They both swore up and down the tensioner rarely needs to be done and they can tell when they take it apart if it does. The feeling here is I should have done the tensioner also.

I've heard the same about the tensioner rarely going.

I picked pup an OE kit with the parts listed above on ebay (AISIN) for 200.
3 Gallons of toyota coolant 60
8 Denso iridium .7mm 90
Throttle body and MAF cleaner ~10
Air Filter 16
Cabin Filter 10
Brake Fluid ~5
ATF for Power steering pump 7.

I had a local mechanic do all the work at my house: incluidng TB/WP, change the filters, clean the throttle body and maf sensor, change the plugs and flush my brake and ps fluid. He did it all in just over 3 hours with zero issues. His price was 250.

Total cost so far including labor ~650.

Sometime in the next year, I'll have my atf changed at a fluid specialist for about ~200. At this point my total cost will be 850

The local lexus dealer wanted 1200 just to change the TB (no WP, no pulleys).

I gave some thought to non OEM parts. This (AISIN) is clearly very good value. I'm not buying their teaser comment that they grind off the Toyota logo though.

My car is an '04 and only 90k miles so I felt I was saving enough $$ by doing the labor myself. OEM parts online were 30-40% cheaper than dealer so I felt pretty good value there as well. I didn't want to be second guessing quality of parts with an interference engine. If I keep car until 180k miles I'll probably consider a kit like this then (as the cars residual value will be quite a bit less then).

I did learn later I could have saved a bit of $$ by buying the full strength (concentrate) coolant and diluting it myself. Instead I bought the prediluted stuff not knowing this is a much more expensive way to buy it.
