apparent map dvd dying. ssd replacement?
My map dvd is getting flakier and flakier. Today it didn't even come up at all; I attributed it to the subfreezing weather.
In any case, has anyone replaced the dvd drive with a solid state drive and if so, which ones should I be looking for? Now that the ssd's have drastically reduced prices, it is worth getting rid of this one headache.
I guess what I need to know is which ssd replaces the dvd drive that the nav system uses?
And since it will have so much more room, is there any advantage to putting lots of other stuff on that drive?
Thanks,
David

Guys I think you're doing some wishful thinking here. There is no one that I've ever read about that has simply replaced the DVD with a hard drive.... its an integrated system.
You can either:
1) fix your OEM system
2) swap it out for an aftermarket system
3) potentially put in a later model OEM system (depending on what version / model year you have)
Love to see you prove me wrong, but I read a lot of threads on this forum and haven't ever seen that done.
