No I made it up as wouldn't it be funny if someone were to come out and say that....there may very well be such people. I can only say that about my Maxima's timing chain and water pump, and was saying wouldn't it be funny if a LS430 were in the same shoes. I don't talk about it on the Maxima forum, nor do I even participate much. So we might never know of anyone who has 180, 200, 220, etc. on original....

Perhaps someone can clue me in. The Carfax for my recently purchased 2003 with 102k shows a timing belt replacement at 88K by an independent shop. It did give me some comfort given the age of the car more so than the mileage.

So my question, is it unusual for an independent shop to report a timing belt replacement to Carfax? I never heard of this use of Carfax.

Other items at the same time reported to Carfax were flush and change: Brake, Transmission, Power Steering fluids.

Mine didn't. I'd prefer to see the Aisin sticker under the hood. My wife has a GM vehicle and Carfax doesn't show any of her service. Whereas my Nissan Maxima? It has all the services going back to about 2001. Carfax is unreliable, it mainly imho pulls from DMV. We can inspect our cars early in PA, and I did it 2X. Now? The carfax shows inspections expiring 2 mos earlier than reality. Don't you wish we thought of making up a service like that....

Was said shop a Japanese indie? If they are reputable then the service is likely legit.

Some shops can report that info and some won't. I've experienced both so, yeah, it's not unusual for them to report work done.

bought mine used with 140k+, I drove it 2 hours home from where I bought it. Drove it another hour the next day to buy maintenance items as I always replace all fluids and filters on any car I buy. Noticed it didn't have a t-belt sticker and the cover bolts look untouched...it has sat in the yard after that.

dealership where I bought it had no record, carfax had no record, and those bolts were unmarked so I am assuming it wasn't done.

so...140k, and I didn't drive it easy either XD but I would never recommend driving over 90k. IF a seal leaks you won't go long as it degrades the belt...I GOT LUCKY, others might not. My local mechanic is a mile down the road and driving it down to his shop made me nervous as hell once I realized the belt had never been changed. I have had a car break a belt (not this one, different car)...and it's not fun

So an update on this: I changed the TB in my 122mile 05 LS still on its original TB recently. The teeth were still fine, but the mechanic did say the belt wasn't as tight as it should be. Seems like the rubber degraded a tad bit and became looser than a fresh one. I could have probably still continued to drive it without any issues, but doing it definitely gave me a peace of mind.

03 ls430 114,000 original tb here! Replaced valve covers about 110,000 as mechanic buddy stated oil was "close but not yet to the alternator. Picked this car up 12 years ago w 44k mi. Sold my 1st 03 ls430 w 144k mi at that time. You know what! Id have a 3rd 03 ls430! So damn reliable and mine still rides like new at almost 20 yo!
