Maybe someone can shed some light on what to do when a Navigation reader stops working.
Without going tho the dealer and being socked for over $2G's, I'm trying to determine if my reader or my map disk is bad. I get nothing from the unit and my screen is dark unless I select the radio or climate buttons, which operate correctly. In assuming it's the drive, I sought out a used unit. It's a snap to replace. But, of course, the wrecking yards simply price stuff as a % of dealer new price and want over $700 for one. As I'm sure many would agree, that's ridiculous for a nav system that's just marginal at best and outdated. One can get the best Garmin for less.
Anyone have any success with wreckers pricing stuff reasonably? All I want really from the unit is to have the normal screen options return.
Thanks for any assistance.

NO I didn't want to spend the $200 for a ()&)*#$ cd. I used a paid 'answer me' online firm about the issue, and they said that if there was no noise coming from the unit in the trunk itself, then it wasn't likely a cd issue. That would be right as the same test is used for computer cd drives.
It's frustrating. Salavage yards won't ever sell the unit for $700+. It's just not worth it to get outmoded maps. Try explaining that to a salvage monkey!
I had a similar issue with the Levenson amp. Lexus wanted $2200. I tried a repair store, but after three attempts, they gave up..you couldn't get the whole system to work w/o a Levenson unit and they are unrepairable. I finally got a salvage unit for $200 and it worked briliantly.
Overall, Lexus is a rip-off. Nice car, but dealers think they can get away with anything.
I have a new BMW 750 and thank heavens for their 4 yr full warranty. Lexus needs to do the same.
Thanks for the response.
