2001 LS430 vs 2006+ Cadillac DTS
I rarely get into races with others on the road, but last night was one of those nights where I had to put someone in their place so I could be left alone. I was driving home late in the evening in my spotless, gleaming silver LS430 when I spotted a silver DTS with stock 18" wheels. I knew that was the "sport" version with the highest hp. Nice car. It was driven by a guy probably in his late 50's. So I go by him, then I notice he gets right behind me a tailgates a bit, interesting move. So I get on the gas a bit and notice he's still right up on me. I floor it and walk away from him. So we get to the next light and wants to go. I let him take off 1st then reel him in. At the next light I roll my window down grinning . He refused to look over at me even with me honking my horn. He seemed a bit irritated Then we drive off in different direction. I know when to pick my battles and I knew I could beat him, we had pretty much equal hp and weight but he had one less gear (4 speed vs 5. Thanks Motor Trend and Car and Driver)
Don't know what caused him to swoop behind me to try to irritate me. Maybe he saw a guy 1/2 his age driving a clean Lexus and wanted to try to make me feel "small" by beating me in a race. I have a feeling he's been beating lesser cars for a while. Maybe this will be a humbling experience for him.

Shoot, there are alot of V6 cars out that's just as fast or faster that the LS430. 300 hp these days isn't a big of a deal like it was 10 yrs ago. The bar has been raised to 400hp with 6+ speed transmission.

Yeah, one of the reasons I picked the LS430 v. the DTS Performance was better performance of the LS. However, that DTS Performance driver had cooled seats that really cool, was getting a seat massage while launching, and had a heated steering wheel to ease those arthritic white knuckles. He also had a real exhaust note to enjoy.

If traffic conditions are permitting, I like to have a go at anything interesting basically. It's not so much winning I care about as just having some fun, car enthusiast to another car enthusiast. Since I am still a college student and live on campus, I see a lot of other students on the roads with their cars. I toyed with a 90s Camaro (had pretty meaty tires at the back) and kept up pretty easily (though it wasn't a lot of road). I also recently played around with an E60 M5 (guess who would win that in a serious race). The LS is a bit of a sleeper IMO, nobody expects a car that looks like that to pack a decent punch underneath.

My folks have a DTS with all the bells and whistles. They have had some problems but not numerous with many less miles than my 130k on my 04. I have driven their car and have been happy, very happy I have my LS. Their other Caddy burns oil like a Iraq sabotaged refinery, the DTS uses oil also.
