Default Cigarette lighters no good?

The lighter in my LS just doesnt work. I checked the fuse, it is fine. I tried using the lighter from my 4runner on the LS, still doesnt work. What else can I look at?

Several members have removed their ash tray box and replaced it with a Lexus optional box (around $175) without the ash tray that includes the auxiliary power connector. I suspect there are several of these laying around with no intended usage (they're so nicely done it just seems a shame to actually throw them in the trash). They come in different color to match your current wood. I changed the lid to keep the same pattern as I thought it matched better.

Someone might be wiling to sell you their old box at a reasonable price. That would fix your problem, as long as the problem is not in the electrical wiring to the lighter.

Just a thought.

You likely have an electrical problem but if you want a 100% completely mint and unused replacement - my ashtray box and lighter is available. Light colored brown wood out of a black cherry LS with ecru interior. PM me if interested.

Is there an easy way to pull the whole box out to inspect? I didnt want to pull too hard on the wood lid as it seemed Id break it. The ashtray obviously pops right out, but not the lighter assembly. Whats weird is I think the lighter in the rear doesnt work either. Its annoying the heck out of me!

Do a search on threads for removal/installation directions with photos. Not hard to do, you just need to know the procedure.

Hey thanks man. While searching for that, I came upon this thread I somehow missed before?

Turns out theres 2 lighter fuses, one on the drivers side and one on the pass side. I only knew of the one on the drivers side. So I checked the other one and voila, cig lighter fuse #2 is bad!! The 4runner sacrificed her 15a fuse for a better purpose and Ill replace it tomorrow, but problem solved on the Lexus

Mine is crap also, gets kinda worm and smokes the subject but is really tough to get it lit. I just use matches as I pull it out for my Escort RD anyway. Let me know if it ever gets cherry red.

The lighter itself looked as if it had never been used before. Im betting the PO used the port for charging something all the time and thus blew out the fuse. Once I replaced the second fuse, the lighter took less than 10 seconds to pop up and was bright red, super hot. I guess when I use my Escort Ill try to use it with the power port under the center armrest/console, though thats a really crappy place for it. Although if youve ever looked at an S2000, youll see that that car wins for worst placement of power port ever

Glad you got the problem corrected, but I have to say sorry dude but the thought of someone smoking cigarettes/cigars in an LS just makes me sad.

Yep sorry for the mini rant - I am a former smoker myself...quit cold turkey years ago...a great relief to get that giant stupid, leering monkey off my back. Good luck to you and enjoy the LS.
