Hey clublexus,
So I have a 2001 UL LS430 with 128000km (cdn car) and I haven't changed the timing belt yet.. I know that the due date to change the timing belt and tune up is @ 155000km. But I've recently heard that there's a 8 year expiry on timing belts, and after a certain amount of years.. Even if you don't hit the certain km, the belt could break.
So the question is, should I be changing my belt and water pump now? And not wait till 155000km? Since the car is like 10 years old now!
And what should be done to the car as in service wise if I was to do the timing belt?
Thanks
Jimmy

Yeah, tough to say by years rather than miles. I know the belt is good easily into 160K Km, but to judge on years... tough. Rubber does rot over time and 10 years is a long time to wait, even if car is driven daily but just not much miles.
In your case, I'd say don't risk it, just because it is coming up on 10 years. If you were 5 years old, I'd say go the full length of time.

I bought my '04 in '09 with 16k miles so I'm also very interested in this. I only have 24k now and I'm certain I'll run into an age limit long before the mileage, but there's very little practical guidance on this beyond what's in the manual.
