500+ miles is only if you're doing atleast 80% highway I would say, and with no traffic. LA or NY highway is equivalent of like 25 mph local road.
On local, I'm only doing 16-18 mpg, depending on how I feel like driving and that will only equate to 405 even if I run the tank dry. I usually fill up after only doing about 380 miles, or when light comes on.

LOL!!! indeed. I just bought a new set of 17" Kumho LX platinum's tuesday, and I cleaned my MAF (w/CRC) and TB totally, replaced the air filter and cabin air filter. About to go on a 2500 mile trip to the great state of Texas loaded down with 3 other people and a trunk full of luggage. Im going to fill up with jet-pep 92 and log the mileage after reseting all to 0. I will let you guys know the average when I get there, and when we return. my LS is all stock.
Just returned from the great state of Texas. on the way there with 4 occupants and trunk full of luggage - top average hit 26.1 MPG - low average hit 23.5 MPG.
Average per tank hit 24 MPG. so Im very happy with the results considering how heavy we were. on the way back the average was slightly lower since your basically going more uphill traveling from west to east. total of 1800 miles driven over 5 days.
looking foward to many more road trips in the LS430!!

prices are climbing daily - starting to take a toll on the ol' wallet - driving the accord now and then to conserve a bit on gas mileage - funny thing is the v6 accord only gets slightly better gas mileage than the LS.

Global demand for oil is currently 87 million barrels per day with global demand expected to increase to 88 million barrels by year end. Think gas prices will go back down anytime soon? Not likely.
We will see significant behavior changes in the US at over $6 per gallon. I personally don't drive enough (apprx 6K per year) to be impacted much by increased gas prices.
I guess at some point - maybe around $10/gallon, I might change my behavior but its not likely given how much I drive.
I hate to admit it but I would prefer to pay higher prices if that will make the typical US driver be more careful about not wasting gas and making unnecessary trips - will make traffic lighter.
In my town, on our daily 3 mile walk - every morning I see untold numbers of "stay at home" mommies driving little Chad and Muffy to school in the 23 foot Escalade douche-mobile SUV, and then the school bus goes by 5 minutes later 3/4 empty.

gas in Venezuala costs $.07 cents a gallon, while in Japan is at $8 bucks a gallon - I wouldnt doubt if we would tap into our own reserves the price should go down a bit.
on the other hand, what do you guys think of the new Lexus CT-Hybrid? 40mpg luxury vehicle is pretty good starting for 29k.
