Default Importance of the 60k mile service?

I wanted to know if people have decided to do (or even skip) this service. Our car has nearly 70k miles and we have been doing oil changes at every 5k and wanted to know if it was worth the money to do the 60k service.

I am at 59xxx and I am looking through what I will do for the service and from what I understand its fluid flushes. Not 100% necessary, however I choose to do it for peace of mind.

If you want the car to last, maintain all the fluids, cheaper than replacing in case an issue arises.

What I plan to do for mine is:

Diff fluid
Trans fluid
engine air filter
cabin filter
then just oil change.

Probably the most important aspect of the 60k mile service is brake inspection. This is about the mileage when the front brakes are just about shot. A brake fluid flush would be good idea too.

The pre-packaged services are a huge dealer profit item. I suggest you do at least air filter changes yourself, have maint done on an ala cart basis and ignore the prepackaged services. Just have maint done per the items listed in the owners manual that you cannot do yourself. For 30 k service, I had dealer flush brake fluid, change oil (brought my own oil), change rear differential fluid and tighten the rear flange bolts. Think the cost was approx $230.

I told my service advisor that I wanted to save money and perform all required maint per the owners manual on an ala cart basis, do some of the work myself, and not use any pre-packaged services pricing and he was fine with that. I do all the easy stuff - change my own air filters, wiper blades, clean TB and MAF, flush my PS fluid, and plan to change brake pads when required. I would do my own oil change but its not that expensive to have dealer do it - especially if you bring your own oil and the Lexus tech does an inspection as part of the oil change.

I've used the "ala carte" method successfully for my LS400 (RIP) and 02 LS430UL. My suggestion is make friends with the service advisor and go through the list of service items. Pick out the ones you feel comfortable doing (oil changes, coolant change, etc) and do them at your own pace. Then have the dealer do the others. He will also tell you what is needed and what is fluff. This cuts your costs considerably so that when you need a timing belt or other big item that needs dealship expertise, you can afford it. It has worked well for me.
