Default Cruise Control Sensitivity

It seems to me that the cruise control on my 2006 LS430 unnecessarily sensitive with minor upshifts and downshifts. Is it possible to reduce this sensitivity? Precise speed control, I would think, may be less fuel efficient than a system which allows a little more variance (a mph or two either way). I drive quite "gently" with an eye on fuel economy. Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

What trim is your LS? Are you using the laser/radar cruise?

The laser/radar cruise maintains distance between you and car in front of you (if any), but the "normal" cruise is set to a single speed and maintains it. I'm not sure how "sensitive" your cruise is, but I don't feel it up-down shifts too often in either mode.

As for setting of sensitivity, no, there is no setting for such in normal mode. In laser/radar mode, there is sensitivity for how far you want to maintain distance.

If you're going uphill a lot I suppose it would make sense for the car to downshift a bit to maintain set speed. I've only used it a very few number of times (when I had an itch in my right foot lol).

Good question. Some folks (I believe here) have noted in the past that they get better MPG when covering the same route without using cruise control verses using it.

Speaking of sensitivity on CL and UL cars with adaptive cruise control: the speed setting sensitivity is to the next higher / lower 5 MPH with each click while in ACC mode, but the sensitivity is in 1 MPH increments with each click when in normal cruise control mode.

My LS 430 does not have the adaptive cruise control...so it sounds as though I'm out of luck. I will consult with my Lexus dealer the next time I darken their door. Thanks for your comments.

It's a very strange behavior. Our cars are equipped with a computer that calculates how much power is needed to propel the car on the hill without downshifting and adjusts accordingly without the need for operator to physically push the accelerator pedal. As to radar cruise, when you approach the car in front, the system first "stops" pushing the accelerator, then downshifts, then applies brakes as more decelleration is needed.
Maybe you just need to reset the computer.
