Default What's an 01 UL worth that needs paint job

What's an 01 UL worth with 100k miles that needs a paint job, Looks like a maaco paint job that looks like crap, Car still has all original vin # on all the panels so no accidents, clean carfax.

Run & drives fine, Timing belt/water pump has not been done.

I would say that a good 100k mi would go for roughly $15k or so. I would probably say yours is maybe $10k or so since you need a paintjob (easily $5k) and timing belt/water pump ($1-2k). Does everything else work well? How's it drive?

Some pics might be helpful too.

That is easy to check and not too expensive to fix...doe I think that would rather be an oxygen sensor...

To be perfectly honest, I think you're better off passing on this neglected example (bad paint, maintenance items behind schedule) and wait for a cleaner, lower mileage one.

OT: Any pics of the ISF?

To be honest, i searched the WHOLE US for a 01-03 ls. They are about 14k-16k for ~100k miles for NON UL. If you get the car for 10k like carguy89 says and put in another 6k, id say youd be in range. The bad is you dont have stock paint, the good is you have any color you want. But, youd also have to look at their other maintenance history to see if oil changes and stuff was done on time. You wouldnt want a bad motor for a ls..

also with a ul at 100k, i would be worried about the air ride. it obviously doesn't have much time left until it will need some money, based on what people report here.

I agree with carguy - a good paint job is gonna run $5k so discount the offer by price of paint job and TB/water pump.

Be aware that afterwards the car may not be worth as much as a stock 01 LS with a good intact factory paint job. Me... I'd pass and not take on the risk and hassle and keep looking for a garage kept well maintained example instead.

I would question why someone would put a Maaco paint job on an LS. What for? Something strange must have been going on.

Not knowing alot about paint, I would be worried the paint over the Maaco job would not stick. Walk on by!

I bought my 01 LS430 UL that was repainted by Lexus. It had 134K on it and the previous owner had all service up to 128K at Lexus so it was easy to pull the records. There were only a couple of issues with the car when I bough it. The passenger side rear seat did no recline (bad motor) also the driver side folding mirror intermittently did not work. Not much more other then a few door dings and some scratches. I purchased the car for $11,500 just to give you an idea of price. Also the rear seat repair cost me all of $45 to fix myself and the power folding mirror was a free fix as no parts were needed.

I picked up my UL at 140k for under $12.5k. Would highly suggest to continue looking and pass on that one since those problems are fairly major unless you don't care about the paint quality. Don't forget to try out every feature, as you may spend half an hour doing it (e.g. radar cruise, etc).

PM me your email if you want a spreadsheet of ULs I've found around Southern California, their prices and conditions.

Hilo- curious, what fixed your intermittent folding driver mirror?
