Most used car prices are up. I saw an article somewhere in the past couple weeks about folks trading in their used cars and buying new. It works best if trading in a high MPG car and buying a truck or SUV - if that's what you need.

Yes, prices are up. I tried buying a used Honda a few weeks ago but at my price, not theirs. That is usually how it has worked for me in the past. The dealer would not budge. They still have the vehicle but it is now priced $1000 higher. I am gonna sit tight with my cash and wait for this herd-mentality induced price increase to come back down to earth.

I bought and 09 Camry hybrid a year ago for 19 now I see Kelly and Edmunds at around $21,500. Seems if ya are willing to drive/ship there are some good deals on Autotrader still for the LS. It i still looked at as a guzzler.

Just bought a one owner 05 LS last week that came out of Florida: 68k miles, Flint Mica, Custom Luxury and upgraded leather pkg and ended up paying 22,450 for it. Still not sure it was a good deal but I'm happy as hell with the car.

Florida prices tend to be a little lower than national average so its a good place to find an LS...may be due to lots of supply in FL and very depressed economy.
I am surely biased but I think the LS430 may someday be viewed as one of the top production line cars that were ever made so I am not surprised that prices for really good ones are holding firm. I also discovered there can be quite a range in condition on these cars so a really good one (known in the trade as a creampuff) tends to sell at a premium and they get snapped up - literally in a matter of hours.
I bought mine in August of 2009 when prices were a little depressed due to bad economy. I paid a little of a premium price but feel it was worth every penny as it was like buying a brand new car - $33k for 06 CPO from Lexus dealer for virtually showroom cond car with less than 14k miles on it.

Yeah, the LS430 is definitely still worth it at the higher prices. Can't really find a such a blend of comfort, refinement, and reliability in most other cars. I sure am glad I pulled the trigger last summer though lol.

The 05 CL with 68 k for 22,450 sounds pretty much in the ball park I bet you could find one with 35 k on it for 27-28 ish. Thats about what they seem to be if you look and are willing to drive non cpo with service history to FLA. Now the stealer and high markups are out there but they are 6-7 year old cars.

I'm currently in the market for an 05 LS430 UL with mileage in the 60s' and it looks like the best price I can find is about $24K. I also notice that the KBB is $31K for this car, so maybe the market isn't supporting the KBB retail numbers?
I think I'd better snap this car up based on what I'm seeing.

Is that the private party Flint Mica LS in Dearborn? Be sure to check the service history which should be complete as it is supposedly CPO. (Lexus.com, owner center, register, enter the VIN as if it was your car, get service history, remove car). I'd also get a professional inspection. The only red flag I saw from the Autotrader ad was that the car is listed with 60K miles and one of the pics show the odo with 47K miles.
Good luck.

I'm interested in the Mercury Metallic 05 in Chicago (at a Chrysler dealer) with 64K miles. I notice in the rear picture that the driver side exhaust tip is not straight and the car was titled to the 2nd owner in mid-April and back for sale in June. Dealer says the buyer really wanted a GS and brought the LS back... not sure what to make of that.
I expect to have it inspected at Bredemann Lexus of Glenview.
I'm not a big fan of dealmaking at a distance, but options are somewhat limited. I really appreciate your insights.

I can vouch for them. I picked up my 04 with ML, 25k mi, CPO'ed for $25k from them last summer. The staff is professional and courteous. They did everything they said, held the car for me, let me take it on a longish (for a dealer anyways) test drive, even took time to show me all the panels had matching VIN #s. They also took me pretty serious, despite my age (I was almost 21 then lol), something some of the other dealers didn't do. They were very thorough and honest, would definitely do business with them again.
That's a long way out though, took us 5-6 hrs of driving from Ann Arbor to Glenview.
